Musings on a Misty day...

...another one! I have not posted my runs this week, they have been wet or damp and mostly foggy, misty or murky. :(

Coughs and colds seem prevalent everywhere I go, husband currently really under par, and my tickly throat turned into a run stopper!

I had this already written, but after I read ju-ju- s really super, inspirational post this morning... ( if you have not read it, please make sure you do).

I just wanted to say...just like she says, whatever is thrown at you, just hang in there.. you can do it...so can we all :)

My Lurgy

I have a little lurgy

He isn’t very nice

This little chap is speedy

And he’s caught me once or twice.

He bothered quite a few of us

About this time last year

With every kind of lurginess

And once again, he’s here

.

So many of us are going down

With bugs of every kind

With cold and coughs and sneezles

He really doesn’t mind.

He’s had a go at Bluebirdrunner

davelinks and our aliboo70 too

Poor @ju-ju- and Curlygurly2

And that is just a few…

There’s Flossie12 on the old IC

He made misswobble fall

From twinging knees to twisted limbs

He’s been and caused it all!

If he can make you really ill

He’ll always have a go

And like those pesky gremlins

He loves to see us slow.

I took him on my runs this week

He hid, I don’t know where

Through fog and mist and murkiness

He lurked and waited there

.

He slowed my steps, he chilled my bones

My tickly throat, made sore

But not content with doing that

He thought he’d do some more

.

A tightish chest, a muzzy head

By my run number three

A little cough, and achy legs

Yep, he’d caught up with me

.

I made my way, so slowly home

Just ready to give in,

Hot showers, warm drinks, and snuggly chair

The healing to begin

.

But, turning down my garden path

A special thing to see

A sign of Spring and warmer days

Just waiting there for me

So, nasty little lurgy

You think you’ve got us beat

You really do know nothing

You’ll never stop our feet.

We may succumb to nasty germs

To spills and tumbles too

But like those little snowdrops

We’ll all of us, come through!

After a virtually run-free December (yep, due to lurgies), I am loving being back out there again, Oldfloss. I do think this is my favourite time of year for running 🏃🏽‍♀️😀x

I love it too...but only when I can see further than my hand..it has really been dank and dour here... but.. better days a'coming!

I am so glad you are back out there..it makes all the difference to us doesn't it...I think I am a much nicer person because of my running x

What a super poem Oldfloss 😄😄

It made me tingle and laugh... you are right we will beat those lurgy thingys..we are strong together.

Just loved the ending..snowdrops...will definately be scouring my route for the first signs of spring too!

I'm fine now, thank you for the mention, and do hope you don't get a nasty bug too. Rest and honey and lemon help. xxx

Will take a look at ju_ju's post now.😊

OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Thanks... I am taking homemade honey and lemon as we speak! My Nan's recipe :)

it was wonderful when I spotted the snowdrops..just coming through the grass at the edge of the lawn... Cheered me right up!

Blessed lurgy monsters... a cold snap will see them off :) xxx

Bit hit and miss at the moment. Poor pooch is taking a long time to heal! Only doing a couple of runs a week at the moment (but enjoying arranging the parties whilst doing the dawg physio)! 😀

This was a lovely post Oldfloss , and the snowdrops really warmed my heart after a very cold run this morning. 🌷💐

OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Razouski

Well.. thank you..I know you have had a few issues...I thought of you when i was writing it.. but could not get you to scan properly! :) :) That little lurgy monster gets everywhere! !

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply to Oldfloss

Razouski is not great for rhyme,

It's such a silly name,

You couldn’t make it fit the time

It’s really such a shame.

I should have used my real name, Gill,

'Twould fit into your verse.

It rhymes with chill, and hill and ill,

And all those things adverse.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Razouski

Wonderful.. thank you...

Now I know, I shall dedicate one of my next rambling rhymes to you.. and you will, Gill, healthy, or ill, be the one and only star!!!

Absolutely great! xx

Great floss!

Lurgy caught me, sinus, and loads of sneezing with sore & tickly throat which has been hanging out for a while now. Hopefully it stays away from the chest, runs few and far between, tried a run on Thursday but no great shakes! Feel quite lethargic.

Lozenges appear to be helping the throat, so hopefully it's on the way out!😊

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to davelinks

That's what I read.. your sinus issues...that's why I wear my hat and buff.. I get real pain in my sinuses if they get cold.. :(

I feel the same Dave.. a tad lethargic...not really ill..but not up to par... I just keep going in the hope I can shake the lurgy monster off..but no Sunday run tomorrow I don't think.

I hope you feel better soon... we need that sunshine and a good cold snap to kill the germs !

Big hug to Mrs Dave too xxx

Thanks Frank... I think the running has made me much stronger and more able to cast off the ailments.. just a combination of damp yukky weather and greyness I feel! but.. you cannot keep a grey snail down... :)

Hope you are okay x

Hope the lurgy decides to leave - and I stared incredulously at the snow drops. I ran in minus 10 C yesterday and we didn't get over minus 6 today with snow everywhere. Can't imagine spring. What does it feel like?

Get well soon, dear OldFloss. This seems to be a bad time of year for you, weren't you lurgified this time last year aswell? My test will be March, that tends to be the time the lurgy gremlins descend on me. We shall see!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate

I am banishing the lurgy... :)

Blimey, that is cold... I would welcome a little bit colder..but not that much. It has just been so flipping damp and foggy and misty.. all the germs seem to be thriving!

I was, indeed, lurgified last year at this time.. by a huge lurgy dinosaur, which got loads of us .. the Bronchitisaurus!!! Took me ages to get back on form....It is, I think, when the gremlins get me... maybe... you can avoid them this year too!!! I hope so! x

Thankyou Oldfloss for your little ditty!

I'm still feeling grotty, and full of self pity!

I've snuffed and wheezed which is an annoying issue

And got through a big big tub of tissues !

I've run only once and am missing a race

Which is tomorrow and gives me a sad face😕

I wanted to get muddy and splash through puddles

Instead of feeling foggy and my mind in a muddle!

And I missed parkrun to add to the dismay

I wish my lurgy would go and hop away!

Ps it's all Boz's fault!

Pps i never usually get lurgys so as you can tell I'm not very tolerant (and quite grumpy!)

Ppps thanks for the mention and get well soon yourself xxx

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to aliboo70

Oh Ali that’s dreadful

I do feel so sad.

I really feel for you,

It’s really too bad.

We’re both awful patients

And need to get well

But when that will happen

One never can tell.

So, let’s try to be grown up,

And go with the flow.

Start to feel better

,

And then before we know,

You’ll be back out running,

along some long trail

And I, well I will return to,

The yellow stripey snail!

I hope you feel better soon sweetie... big hug

Flossx

Great rhyme by the way x

One of the best posts ever!

Lurgies won't win though. NEVER.

I'm worried I might have "Anneflu",

a mutated form of man flu.

But much more likely I'll be all right

If I head off now for an early night.

Morning :) Thanks you... pesky lurgy... I am sitting in bed, instead of being out across my fields.. :(

Probably a good job though, as it is minus 2 and freezing.. the pavements outside are white and treacherous !

Sometimes we need to listen to our bodies and try to be grown up and sensible... boring though it is. I am planning a new route though! :)

Have a good day :)
