How typical is this?!

Just done wk1 and looking forward to starting wk2 and feeling all pleased with myself when I was suddenly hit with the dreaded stomach bug and this is the third day of feeling nauseous and so bloated! At this rate I will have to start again and I'm beginning to feel a bit down. I've missed some good running weather evenings too! I can only hope I feel ok tomorrow as its my day off. Hope all of you runners out there are doing well.

Hi chrysanthemum I know that feeling although it was not week one, but still had health issues that set me back a couple of times. Don't get down, you made a good start, and you will get back on track, hope you feel well enough to venture out tomorrow. 😄

I do hope so. Thankyou first_mate

Don't worry, I'm lucky not had any health problems during my running. Although runs have been missed due to weather or life issues that crop up. We all have some doubts about getting back into the swing of running and sometimes perhaps take it slowly and perhaps take couple of weeks to get back to where we left off.

The holidays , mince pie overconsumption and bad weather wrecked my routine a bit but now am back to where I was before Xmas.

You will find that if need be repeat a week if you have to but you may surprise yourself and have no problem. As I say to myself "what's the rush where's the fire". sometimes the main thing is getting out there and doing any running is enough. But if you are not well that can't be helped. If need be have a day's rest and live to run another day !

Keep us all posted.

Whoops! As far as I know, the tummy bug just came from nowhere, can't think it is connected to your running. Rest up and try again

Although frustrating, it happens! running will still be there when you get back, and you'll soon pick up, take it easy!😊

Hope to go out tomorrow and will continue with wk2 thanks for your message.

Chrysanthemum don't be too downhearted, you'll soon be back on track. I got to the end of week 8 then had to start again from week one following some surgery, but I still went on to complete. A few days rest will set you up for your next run, and at least, even if you feel you have to repeat week 1, you know you can do it.

Get well soon. 🤒

Keep reading the forum, browse some running pages. That'll keep the momentum up in spirit.

Tell me about it. Did W2R1 ok last Tuesday ..Started feeling ill Thursday but did R2 but knew I shouldn't and shivered all that night... Went to work on Friday and coughed a bit then broke up for a weeks leave and have a grotty chest/cough and the furthest I have been since then is to the end of the drive. Might need to go back to beginning as still feel crap now, 😷🤒😖

Look at you. You've git the bug... The running bug. Only one week in and you are eager to ge out and run. Seriously though, sorry you have a tummy bug. We all get set backs. Very, very few do the programme without repeating runs or weeks for loads of reasons. So get well, and pick up the programme wherever you feel is right for you. Sorry you have had a set back so soon, but your enthusiasm to get out there will carry you through.

Sorry to hear you haven't had a great start. Once you are feeling better, get back out. The fact you want to run despite being ill is testament to you.

With that attitude you will be running the magical 30mins/5k in no time.

Oh no, poor you. Don't worry, things come up occasionally and unfortunately we just have to put our plans back a bit or work around things. You'll be back out there soon. There's perhaps no harm in trying one run of Week 1 and if you manage it and feel ok perhaps go on to Week 2. A few days off really won't make too much difference. :)

A few days off did no harm now I feel better, thanks.

I had three weeks off with sinusitis and antibiotics and was worried like you. If it helps I keep reminding myself that this a change for life and not a quick fix. So it does not matter how long it takes - just keep going. Make sure you are well before you start again. I made the mistake of running whilst I was recovering and just got ill again!

You're right, this is a change for life, a few days is OK to rest and not worry. Thanks for advise.
