I can't comment on weight as I threw my scales away in disgust when they kept lying to me! But shape... here I can speak from experience. It is one of the unexpected (by me, anyway) benefits of c25k. My waist is at least 7 inches smaller now than it was, in fact, I hadn't seen my waist for ages. My thighs are now toned and a lot more slender, likewise calves but the best bit... No more 'back sausages'π
I think there is obviously going to be a huge spectrum of differences given different body shapes and metabolisms but just speaking for me, the shape change was quite dramatic.
I do hope the Thyroxine helps. Of course the other obvious benefit is that running lifts your mood. Always a plus Good luck with the runs. Enjoy, and keep posting!
Thanks for the quick reply, yes I too have got rid of the scales, they lie!!! Great to hear that running has made a difference to you, fingers crossed it will for me.
I attend WW class regularly and weigh-in there. I like to keep a check on myself. It's a good habit to get into
Running can change your shape, if you do it regularly enough and eat healthily while you're doing it. Running up hills has to be one of the best ways to shred your mid section I've found. I do Jillian Michaels exercise DVD's too and they are good for the middle, and everywhere else I think.
I like walking too. Just being more mobile in general is a good plan. If you stick to your running and keep doing it, you should be successful at slimming down. Eating healthily though is obviously key to it, and the better your diet the slimmer you will be.
Welcome and well done for getting started! C25k is so great, stick with it and you'll be a runner in no time!
I was infuriated halfway through the programme to find that I had PUT ON weight rather than lost any! After the initial anger I had to remind myself that I was fitter than I had ever been and therefore must be more healthy so, at the end of the day, it didn't matter hugely what the scales said. This was reinforced when I saw a photo of myself last summer wearing a short dress at a friend's wedding and, having always hated my tree trunk legs, actually thought my legs looked half decent for the first time in my life!
Some people see dramatic results. My hope now that I'm on a 10k plan is that, fingers crossed, with mindful and healthy eating I'll lose a bit more. Either way, getting out and exercising means you're doing far better than sitting on that couch!
The first changed I noticed was my jeans feeling looser around the bum. I think it took about 3 months to drop down each clothing size. Drastically cutting back on alcohol and added sugars helped me loose weight along with running.
I first noticed on my bra hooks. I finally found out why there are 2, sometimes 3 on bras and gradually worked through them all and eventually had to replace!
Lol McFitty at losing your 'back sausage!' I know just what you mean!!! I still have a couple of hot dogs hanging around, but hope they will be gone during the next round if C25k πππ
For me it was being able to comfortably fit into a pair of trousers that, pre-programme, had been uncomfortably tight. Beyond that, my legs seem more solid? I don't think they're any larger or smaller, but whereas they used to be bone and mainly fat they've now got more muscle on them, whilst remaining about the same size.
I don't own a pair of scales, and didn't bother to take any 'before' photos or take any measurements, so that's the best I can really answer, I'm afraid.
Quick note on the gluten- free thing, though- check the alternatives! In order to make gluten free substitutes taste like 'normal' food, they tend to have higher quantities of fat/sugar, and or be packed with all sorts of extra added nasties. You don't mention exactly how you've gone gluten free, but as someone who's had coeliac disease for 12 years I just wanted to warn you that if you've moved onto stuff from the free-from section of the supermarket, it might not be as healthy as you think.
Thank you for your reply, I am currently following slimming world so I cook most of my meals from scratch, but yes I have noticed this on a lot of gf foods. I try not to eat bread anyway, and spend a lot of time looking at labels of my usual brands! π
My scales tell fibs and told me I wasn't losing weight whilst on the C25K programme, but I know from my eyes that my shape changed (for the better)
Weight loss is about 80% diet and 20% exercise (IMHO), though I guess that massive exercise like walking 10 miles every day at a good pace would help burn the fat.
