Week 8 nearly but not quite.....

Last Monday I complete the first 2 runs of week 8 going at a steady pace and by the end feeling great. For the third run I had planned on going out on Friday after work but after the office Christmas party the day before I was still feeling delicate so decided to postpone until the weekend.

Saturday was spent driving up the M1 and back to Yorkshire to visit family and drop off presents so the scene was set for a run on Sunday morning.

Woke up around 8am on Sunday and headed downstairs to watch Match of the Day and do the weekly iron whilst my wife and daughter were still asleep upstairs. With the ironing completed there was no putting it off and I changed and set off for week 8 run 3. I don't know what it was but as soon as I started running I felt really good and settled into a nice rhythm. However, when Laura piped up that I was halfway through I was really feeling it and sad to say had to slow down to a walk :(. For the next 10 minutes I was then combining running with the odd short walk and as I neared home I had only completed 25 minutes and did not feel great so headed back to a nice warm bath.

After synching my fitbit with my phone I took a look at my split and realised that for the first km I was running at 6 minutes pace and this was the reason why I could not complete the run. So tonight I will be heading out again to complete the run at a much steadier initial pace :)

Lesson learnt Brunelphil. Not for nothing is our mantra 'slow and steady'! You can push for speed once you can do the time.

Good luck with the next one - you will be fine!

sorry for the boring techie question but can I ask what you use for recording pace/distance? I think I need to change what I use as I cant get splits.

Not a problem. I currently have a Fitbit Charge HR that I wear all the time, hopefully upgrading to the Fitbit Blaze at Christmas :) On my phone I have the Fitbit app which I then take with me when running, this has a track my run/walk/bike element which I start when I start to actually run (don't count the warm-up or warm-down walks). After my run I then just synch my Fitbit with the app and it shows the distance run, average HR, splits etc. You can then also view the results on the web at your leisure.
