Well would you believe it!

I popped in to see my knee consultant this morning, who told me that the results of my MRI showed that I have a stress fracture in my left knee. He then says I have to non weight bare for at least three weeks, may be six! So I walked around the corner to sit in my local A and E department waiting to be given a pair of crutches. Didn't really factor that one in, as I then had to hobble back on crutches which seemed like miles to my car. My upper body is now moaning, but I am home with the shopping at least, which I had the foresight to do click and collect with! Happy running to those that can and to those that can't, I feel your pain! 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🎅🏻☃️🎄😀😀🤕🤕

Thank you pops! Yes, running is how I did it. I'm not very good at letting others do everything. Usually just go around like a whirling dervish and things magically appear! It's going to be really tough. I finish work tomorrow lunchtime so that should make it easier! 😀xxx

Oh Flossie... you are so like me.. when I tore my Achilles tendon.. I had to have three different plasters on, ( altered foot angle or some-such)... I got so fed up... I used my computer chair on wheels, to whizz around doing things.. cooking and sorting etc... So if you had similar and decorated with ivy and tinsel... that could be the way to go...:) xxxxxxxx

Ooh torn Achilles' tendon sounds really painful. Hmmm, computer chair on wheels, unfortunately the one we had, my younger son broke. Don't know how exactly, but I wonder if I could phone a friend on this one and whizz around the kitchen on a loan one! Especially if decorated with baubles, tinsel and ivy. I could even wear my Santa hat to finish off the effect!👏🏻👏🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻🎄🎄☃️☃️

Ow Flossie, that's awful. Do you know how you've actually done it? Rowing, running or something else?

Get them all to spoil you this Christmas whilst you sit with your leg up!

Flossie22 profile image

Yup, running, that's a great shame. Still I have a great sports injury consultant. So I am really blessed. 😊

Oh...sorry to hear that Flossie, that's given you an answer you didn't want to hear. So NO running and walking with crutches..poor you that sucks.

Take care Floss.. get better.. then back to slow and steady build up I suppose.

Hope you have a lovely Christmas.xx

Did you ask whether running would be ok if you use the crutches? Sorry. Bad joke!

Very sorry to hear this, it sucks big time. I hope you heal quicker than they think.

Flossie22Graduate in reply to Tomas

That did make me laugh! I cannot believe how slow I am on crutches. I'm hoping I can build up pace like weeks 1-3 of C25K! and become super speedy by new year! You never know, I could start "crutches to 50 metres" ! I must have "crutched" quite a bit today though, because I needed to get some shopping and of course crutch back to the car after A and E!

Thanks for your thoughts. 😀🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻

I had a bunion op on 20 Dec 2010, and it was my best Christmas ever! My husband and son cooked Christmas lunch, and I was waited on hand and foot for 6 weeks. (Actually the assistance 'proper' from them lasted about 6 days till they got bored of trailing round for me, after which I did a lot of crawling, but let's not open THAT old wound!!!).

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to useitorloseit

Poor you! But that sounds good news on the Christmas front! Trouble is, I'm usually the one everyone descends upon, so it's going to be very hard to ask others for help. I prefer playing the Mum role and caring for everyone else. Think I'm going to find a long handled bag I can put around my neck, like a horse, to carry tea or coffee in those travel mugs and other bits and pieces! Happy Christmas to you! 😀

Thank you! I finish work on Saturday lunchtime, I'm counting down the hours! Then I shall probably go round the bend, or spend all my time on this lovely forum! I have got some Christmas wrapping still to do. Also the mince pies and Christmas cake still to make. Hope I can manage those sitting down and getting Mother Claus' little helpers (or lanky helper!) to put things in and out of the oven! Happy Christmas to you when it comes! 😀🎅🏻🎄☃️

Noooooooooooooooo! What a shock.... this is very horrid...but..... at least you know!

So.. rest, recoup and recover !

I am back on the path and you are off it... goodness,,, what are we like?

Massive hugs to you... try and stay bright... :)xxxxxx

Ah, oldfloss, thank you! I'm fine at the moment, but it's only been 8 hours of crutching so far! I am sure I will be fine, but I am not very good at letting others do anything. I don't like asking "could you get me a cup of tea please?" As I am usually the one asking "would you like a cup of tea?" 😀 So on the path, off the path, you never know, come Easter we may just be running at the same time! I do hope so! 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🎅🏻☃️🎄

Thank you IJ. I just look a right eejyut at the moment. Haven't quite mastered the suave technique of crutching if indeed there is one. And I only met the vicar in our neighbouring town this lunchtime, when I was a real novice novice at crutching! 😲 oh my goodness me. Can't genuflect just now ;)

Awh you poor soul. At least you have a proper diagnoses & know what you need to be doing.

Just allow yourself to be pampered & be sensible about what you can't do - it will make your recovery quicker. 💐💐

Such wise words Davoda, thank you. You're absolutely right. Thank you for the virtual flowers, lovely touch. 😊 x

Sorry to hear. Not good news for someone as active as yourself. You've no option but to rest under Doctors orders.

At least you have good medical advice. I'm sure, if you haven't already, devised a cunning plan to occupy yourself.

Hope you have a good Christmas.

Now that would be great! Perhaps I could don my new slinky black trousers, black turtle neck jumper and black beanie. Then with amazing deft of good foot and two crutches, cartwheel to the front door shouting "ippon ashi dachi" or one legged stance! LOL 😂

Daahling, ALL the best people are fracturing important bones this year, dontcha know!

I am really sorry to hear you've done this, what a pain in every sense. Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked? I would really recommend taking a supplement anyway (check out SunVit D3, 1,000 IU a day), your body needs it to grow new bone and no-one in this latitude can manufacture enough from sunshine alone during the winter.

I hope it's only a few weeks for you on the crutches - they are a right faff and you get really calloused hands! I hope they have shown you the correct 'crutching' technique too - first the good (good leg), then the bad (broken side) then the ugly (crutches)...

Take care!

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to TurboTortoise

Oh well now of cooorrse that's why I wanted to too! ;) Blood test being organised, thanks. I'm working on my ninja move to the front door at the moment ;) will look at vit D supplements, TVM 😀

Oh no, not what you wanted :-( Hope it heals up quickly. However, you still have to keep practising for leading the virtual Christmas choit - I have been working on the First Nowell and the Holly and the Ivy and the leader is very necessary even if propped up on crutches :-)

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to orchards

Oh orchards that made me smile! I shall practise twirling my choral baton in one hand whilst propping myself up on crutches with the other! Glad to hear you've been practising! Go to the top of the class and get a gold star to wear on your Christmas jumper 😉😄

Runon profile image

Whoops there Flossie - sorry to hear that - I broke my leg six months back and found that after a few days I got really good on the crutches - they're brilliant for upper body toning - so see it as a new kind of alternative fitness exercise that's setting you up for getting back into running - you can also use the crutches for beating a path through busy crowds in the January Sales, getting preferential treatment in airports, stopping lift doors closing at the last minute, and knocking cereal packets off the high shelves in supermarkets. :)

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to Runon

Well that's a great positive spin on it, thanks for that! I can tell my upper body is already working harder than usual. I shall have pecs to die for come mid January! 😀

Irishprincess profile image

Ooh Flossie I'm so sorry to hear that. Did this happen because of that fourth run? Or "just one of those things"? Just look on the positive - your upper body will get a really good workout and you'll have toned arms to die for 💪💪💪 xxx

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to Irishprincess

That's funny after my response to Runon. It was that fourth run. I should have stopped in the final ten minutes. Still pleased that I got a PB on my 5k even with a fractured knee! Yay 😊! 🙄

Hi Flossie, sorry to hear about your injury.

As were rapidly approaching party time, pop down to Halfords and choose a drinks holder to attach to your crutch. They should fit it free of charge.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

All the best for Christmas. x

Flossie22 ! Only just seen this in my mega catch-up post trawl. You poor, poor thing. I didn't even click when you said about waving your crutches - how dense am I?!

Sending you the BIGGEST virtual hug sweetie. Maybe Santa can bring you some super fast healing magic and bionic accessories? Will be thinking of you. Have a wonderful, happy Christmas and hope you're 100% again sooner than you think. Much love 😚😚😚

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to McFitty

Oh don't you worry about me! You are so sweet to trawl through everyone's posts, including mine! You weren't to know, so you most certainly are not dense!

I am planning Christmas to the nth degree, partly because I can't walk much or run about at all, and partly because I am concerned about leaving it to the guys to organise. So, I am reserving a wheelchair at my local supermarket so that I can do the food shopping and going late one evening in the hope that it won't be so busy. Forgot to ask the consultant what I could take if it's a bit painful, so haven't taken anything as yet. Am going to phone the docs tomorrow to see what I am allowed to take. All I know is that ibuprofen can act against bone growth, so I'm not taking that! Maybe a stiff drink before bedtime is the order of the day! 🤔😉

Thinking of you lots, am wearing a woolly hat in the sitting room, nothing wrong with the heating, just opened up a prezzie which was shoved partly through the letterbox. It had a tag on it saying who it was to (me! 😁 🤗) but not who it was from 🤔 So I decided I should open it to see if I could find out. It's the most amazingly warm winter hat, I think it must be from my friends, the wifey works in a ski shop. This will definitely be the most expensive hat I have ever owned, will be wonderful for rowing in the winter, but I actually think it would be far too warm for running here in the UK.

Hugs coming straight back at you too! 😘😘 just think, there'll be pec envy and triceps and biceps envy come January in my village! If my moaning muscles are anything to go by. No pain, no gain. Must wear short sleeved dresses then to show off my amazing arm muscles! LOL 😂 Along with my new woolly hat, I'll look the bees knees! Ha ha! 🤓🤓🎅🏻🎅🏻👗👗💪🏻💪🏻😂😂 XXX
