Very excited. Just got an email through from Wings For Life, the race Madge50 and I are running in Cambridge next year. Have been wanting to do this one ever since I first heard about it 2 years ago. Exciting times.
If anyone's interested, the early bird entrance fee lasts until Christmas. Go on, you know you want to.....

Did you mean me? I've been sort of lurking...struggling with my running, getting slower...so - went and got some new shoes today, hoping they'll brighten me up! Yes, I'll give PR a go soon, just got to test drive my new babies...
Yes, just as normal with Xmas attire! We'll be there, and New Year's Eve and they are doing one on New Years Day ( 10.30) which we're doing set up for. So we'll do the very last of 2016 and the very first of 2017 😄
It's on the 7th May. You stop running when the chase car catches up with you, right? I looked at last year's result, the first chap was stopped after 3 and a bit k. THere's the GMR that's tempting me, and that's in May too. Decisions, decisions.
Have you been on the distance calculator for WFL? At your pace I reckon you'd almost do a HM before you got caught! Me, I'm hoping for 10-11k, possibly 12 on a good day with a following wind!
I looked into that last year Flossie, my phone isn't up to running the app! Couldn't even down load it!
Hopefully, if I sell my house in France next year, I'll be home in Cambridge for 2018...TBH, I'm not much into races, but I'd like to do this one, or at least be there to watch.
Vix! Vix! How the hell are you? It's been waaaaay too long since you've been around. Look, poppypug , dozzer19 BoPeep9009 Irishprincess aliboo70 it's Vixchile back at last! Where are you these days Vix? What have you been up to?
Yes, exciting! Blimey, you will be quicker than me if you get 10-11k, thing is, I reckon there may be a shed load more people next year, add in the time it'll take to get over the start line, by which time we'll be down by 5 mins or so......
Mind you, I got 7.5k in that heat this year......so who knows......😄.......my pace is increasing s l o w l y...... if this year is anything to go by we will have a great time whatever distance we do.... it really is a fab event 👍
Arrgh forgot about the time it'll take to actually cross the start line. Ok, quick rethink may be in order. I'll be happy to get to 8k! Actually, truth be told, I'll just be happy to be there soaking up the atmosphere and taking part. Looking can't wait
Ancient Mum! Hello! Trust you're superfine and dandy? Already checked into your hotel ready for your EPIC WFL weekend? No harm in rocking up a week early!
Wanted to say FLY to the two of you and hope you get the chance for a bit of beaming breathless banter with David Coulthard as he finally cruises by! Still vivid in my memory, a day to remember! All the best MWAH XxX
Hey Bo, how lovely to hear from you * waves frantically *
It's all getting very very exciting now. Up until 2 weeks ago my training was going brilliantly and I was even daring to hope for fast (or should that be long) race, then BOOM! Caught a cold from the kids at school and my asthma flared up. Really thought I'd have to drop out, but now I think I'll be ok. Woke up this morning and my breathing is definitely much better, so will try a gentle 5k tomorrow. Don't think I'll be keeping up with Madge50 this year but I can't tell you how excited I am to be actually going, after dreaming about it for so long.
I'll say Hi to David Coulthard for you as he zooms past. xxx
Hellooo! Hi! Oh crikey AM, the planning, preparing, waiting and wishing all culminating in one date at one time in one place. It's pretty intense isn't it.
At least you're on the mend and have a few more days still to settle down properly. Everything will be perfectly fine, you'll see. You're going to do brilliantly and have such fun!
DC doesn't zoom, it's more of a creepy uppy kind of a thing (unless you've run 39km or so then he'll be going faster!!!) If you get a chance just try having a go at carefully lengthening out your stride, without annoying your hamstrings, saved up ready for when they start baying "he's behind you he's behind you" ... you'll keep ahead a fair while like that I think. Be able to see his wheel arch out the corner of your eye ... You only need to stay there, you might be there for AGES before you tire ... Like keeping one step ahead of your running partner. He's limited when he can accelerate so once you catch his pace and are a whisker ahead you've got every chance of staying there!!!
I say all this in hindsight! I didn't have such skills on the day I was there but next time I will!
Anyway, all the best to you and Madge, it's going to be excellent, you're going to be excellent and you're all raising a stunning amount of money for a fabulous cause.
Will be thinking of you xXx (blowing kisses and cheering loudly)
Wow Bo, Just found this. Thank you, They're the best and most useful race tips I could wish for. It never occurrred to me that I would be able to keep pace with the car for a while. Duh!! If you hadn't said that I might just have folded when he got so close. Excellent advice, Sweetie, really excellent.
As you've probably guessed, I've got every intention of doing the race. I know I'm not fully fit but IT'S WINGS FOR LIFE!! Of course I'm going to be doing it.
Hope Madge50 has seen these tips too, I may be too excited to be coherent on Sunday, so no chance of passing them on on the day.
Thanks a lot Bo, I'll definitely say Hi to DC for you xxx
So glad you're feeling better AM, and the weather looks good for Sunday too.......good tips BoPeep9009 , thanks......I will be aiming for 9-10 k before DC catches me, I managed 7.5k last year in the heat, did 11k today on a very hilly trail, so hopefully on the flat (after Castle Hill....😫).....I'll do a bit better....😉
Girls! I'm loving this red bell notification thingie! Madge50 and AncientMum and this @ bitty bobby wotsit function. Crikey Madge that's very impressive ... Sounds like you know your route intimately and have all your ammunition prepared! Come on Mum, not to worry, you just keep on putting one foot in front of the other and grinning wildly from ear to ear! The only hills are downhills! That's what I always tell myself anyway!
I'm very excited for the two of you ... suppose you already know where you're meeting up to sit and watch the big screens together and partake in some treats on the lawn as the remainers fly through the countryside all around the world? Maybe a bottle of bubbles (?) although we may very well be watching YOU on our TVs as you pound out the miles and miles and miles in style.
It's just the most perfect idea for a running event isn't it? Every single entrant is a winner. The charity receives absolutely all of the dosh. Totally perfect. I love it.
I wish you both the very best, know that I'll be thinking of you, willing you on, relaxing your breathing, dropping your shoulders and stretching out your legs for that final challenge! Perhaps you could find out eXactly at what point of the car a pass is a pass. I had a strong feeling it was when he himself the DC was eyeballing me but I don't really know. Madge, you probably do, you veteran you!
Go girls go! Fly on your Wings for Life and have the best day imaginable.
I don't remember eyeballing him last year, it was so flippin' hot!.....and I missed out on a high five from him at the start too, didn't realise till it was too late, that was why everyone was going down the right hand side at the start.......doh!
What's that thing They say ... If I only knew then what I know now .... He'll be there again hifiving for all he's worth I'm sure.
I got a Well Done from him and his passenger who could have been anyone I have no idea as they leaned forward in their lovely leather seats beaming broadly!
Hi there, they have shuttle buses at about every 5k, so don't worry about that, depending where you get overtaken, you may have to walk to the nearest one, and there could be a delay depending on the number of people etc., but they do take you back to parkers peice. There were some teething problems last year, people weren't sure where the 'bus stops' were, I'm sure it'll be better this year.....😉 There will also be water and Redbull on the buses, it was quite a laugh actually.....
What pace are you planning on running at? The calculator says 7min/km will get me to 10k before the catcher car gets me. Thats manageable when fully fit as it's under my10k PB but I'm not 100% so doubt I'll be heading up Castle Hill at that pace x
