My local parkrun

So I checked out my local parkrun, some of those hills are pretty steep. Definitely need to increase my hill training if I want to make it round that one on christmas eve. Think ill try out a freedom run of the course when I get a chance

Don't forget you can walk those hills if you need to. Don't over do it and risk an injury. My local PR is very hilly, but I have to run hills everywhere around here so not too surprising. That looks a lovely route!

We have a monster hill at the end of ours that many folks just walk up. I've walked it and ran it, I'm pretty sure I'm faster walking it

That's my nearest Parkrun. I graduated last week and have been thinking I have to try it at some point. But I'll maybe wait until after the new year cause those hills are putting me off!

Just give it a go. Like Jacs-W said you can quick walk the hills to begin with. At Lyme Park it starts with a monster 70m climb and whilst you go down hill to the lowest point the last km ends with a 45m climb to thoroughly give you a good work out!

However, its not a bad idea to have a recce run/walk. Me and the wife did before we entered our first Parkrun round there.

Walking up the steepest hills is best. Most folks do that on races anyway from what I've seen.

Confronted with a hill you just go steady, small steps, climb it slowly. Have a breather as required. Running hills makes you fitter and stronger. Just do them in bite sized bits and break them down.

Try to avoid steep hills while on c25k, even slight hills will make it hard enough, try keeping it as flat as possible. But yes you will benefit from hills after, they'll help you gain stamina so make you stronger and benefit your speed for running on the flat...by all means try Parkrun before you complete the programme, but you may have to walk those hills, but that doesn't matter, you're getting out doing it!😊

The outline of your local PR looks a bit like Homer Simpson to me. Doh! Mine is not very exciting as an outline, more like a figure of 8. But I think it is flat, well flat-ish. Great advice here about hills, and it does look like a very pretty route. Good luck!

That looks tough. I'm doing a bit of a guestimate on looking at it. I plot mine on walk jog run. That looks like 2 hills one rising for about 500 metres and rising by 25 metres and another about 600 metres rising by about 25 metres. There are a couple of other tichy ones thrown in in between ! Wow.

I only have one hill at end of run about 500 metres rising about 20 metres. Anyway suggest you put on your phone "Ol' Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra singing "High hopes" about the ant moving the Rubber tree plant !

Relish the challenge !!

The last time I was in that park I was sick! Mind you, it was pregnancy-induced and the baby in question is 21 now so I would probably be safe to go back. :)
