Have you recovered enough to start the c25k? I am starting tomorrow, could help each other maybe?

Hi

regretably no...I had my op only 2 weeks ago...but I am making remarkable progress...not sure when I will be ready to begin...thank you very much for your reply and support.

I found walking was a great preparation for doing C25K and it is something that can be varied according to how you feel. Hills, longer walks can all be introduced once it is safe to do so. What exercise is it ok for you to do now?

Hi thank you for your reply. At the moment it's about a daily walk to rebuild strength and Stamina. I have found that each day brings enormous improvements. I am still a little breathless after a 10 walk at a reasonable pace...so long ways till I'll be fit enough to run...but that's my goal.

That is brilliant, well done and walking can adjust to build fitness really well so it is all preparation, keep going

Walking defiantly a way to start, swimming is good too. Do things like take the stairs, little things make a difference.

Read "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Doctor Caldwell B Esselstyn, Jr. or watch his lectures on YouTube. We followed his advice after my husband's heart attack. Dr Esselstyn is my hero.

Be easy on yourself during your recovery and you'll be ready to start C25k before you know it. Sometimes, some of us need something big to happen to give us the focus we need to make changes. You'll feel so good for doing the program you'll wonder why you didn't do it before!!! Enjoy the eager anticipation of starting the program- it'll be here when you're ready, and so will we. Be kind to yourself 😀.

It's a great time to focus on your recovery, your c25k journey, and what you'd like your life to look like this time next year and beyond. Glad you found this forum - it's Fantastic!!!! Best advice I got here was take it easy, take it slow, and be kind to yourself. It really works!

Yes, get fully recovered first and walking is a great way to start, follow the guidance of your rehab programme and tell them that this is what you aim to do. I wish you a speedy recovery :)

I've been exactly where you are (got the scar to prove it) I had a rehab program of walks and visiting the hospitals gym for exercise classes. Follow the rehab program and this will be a great base to start C25K. Use this as your trigger to change your ways and don't be tempted to go back to any previous bad habits.

As with any major operation follow the guidance of the Dr's and discuss with them your intention to start C25K. I didn't start C25K until several years after my Op but it hasn't held me back in any way and I completed the program without too much of a problem.

Any further help... please ask :-)

Many thanks Andy for your reply. I will never return to my old bad habit of smoking...40 years of that got me here. I have never been so motivated to sort my self out. I am 60 years old and despite the problems with my heart I am in fairly good condition..not over weight. Still early days for me post op...as you advise I am still following my rehab program...thanks again.

I need to loose weight.

Now at the point where I want to loose weight.

I found this NHS site three weeks ago.

Just doing various stretch exercises at home to start with, will move on as someone suggested to walking and then to the full 25 prog.

Finding muscles I lost years ago, having come off the tools and in to driving a desk.

Sounds like a great plan, but take it easy and use advice form your rehab team. I'm doing C25K to change things after having cancer. It's been great as it's not only helped me get fitter, but also helped me mentally and emotionally too. Good luck... :-)

I'm getting there gradually. Need lots of support (physical as well as emotional) as reconstructions after mastectomy and lumpectomy are not the best thing to have jogging up and down as you run!!! :-) Thank goodness for M&S ultra high impact bras. :-)
