Sunday evening is (for various reasons) a regular run slot for me, and so last night I ventured out into the cold . I decided my knee-length summer shorts weren't quite the thing, so off out in walking trousers and a lightweight fleece.
Was glad I had put the long trousers on when, as I stumped along one road, a Gritter went past on the other side - my bare legs might have been shot-blasted!
With it being dark I stuck to the roads, but that has a disadvantage. One reason I like the canal is that while the towpath isn't exactly smooth, it is almost by definition flat - ie lacking in gradient. The same cannot however be said of some of the roads by me.... I shortened my stride, but was still blowing quite hard come the peak point of the route - and my tracker shows that the pace didn't really pick up until I had also picked my way gingerly down the steeper part of the descent. Still, one thing - it allowed me to recover to the point that when Laura said about putting in a bit more effort for the last minute, I felt like I still had enough in my legs to get a bit above my regular shuffling jog!
The distance was down a bit, but to be honest with the slopes I expected that - though I have to say, I'm glad today's a rest day....
