This is one of the rarest, of Oldfloss posts... a short one Hooray I hear you cry.
Those of you who know me, know this rarely happens, ever. I was intending writing a long post of my runs this week.. however...
The Great news is... Little Mum To Be, is now Little Mum. She and wonderful Son-in Law, ( he of the Alien abduction post)... now have a beautiful baby girl!
YEAY! At last it has been a long and bumpy road for them
I am now, officially, Grammy Floss, and I shall be perusing more of the Cafe Press baby runner range as the weeks go on !
The breaking news is, I shall have a bit of free time to peruse things, as I fell this morning...in the house, in the dark, and have cracked two and bruised all of my ribs on my right side. I tripped over a small table and it fell and I landed on the side of it...( don't ask) !
Hospital... no treatment... advice... painkillers... do not laugh, cough or sneeze!
I have done this before, rock climbing...or rather falling... so I know the form by now, and how painful it can be... and it is painful
Hence the short post, as it is fairly uncomfortable doing anything really!
I will check in, as and when, to makes sure all you newbies are on track and that all my chums are pressing on with their individual and awesome running adventures... I just thought, those chums who know me would like to hear the great news about the small one

Congratulations "Grammy Floss" to you and your family on your new granddaughter. What very exciting news Commiserations to you on your fall I hope that you are OK. How are you going to manage though, not laughing, coughing or sneezing? Get well soon and mend those cracked ribs.
Thank you so much....it has been a tense time.. and my runs have kept me strong and calm!
Yes.. the advice.. well.. you can imagine and even though I don't have a cough, I now keep wanting to... and I am a very happy person... it is going to be hard!
Delighted to hear Little Mum and Wonderful Son in Law's happy news of the arrival of BBG (Beautiful Baby Girl) but so sorry to hear of your fall and cracked/bruised ribs.
I cracked one about 8 years ago and still remember the shooting pain when I laughed, sneezed, coughed or even breathed in deeply. I seem to remember it took about 6 weeks before I felt completely better and I'd only lent over a ledge to get something out of my car not tangled with a table in the dark!
Hope you get well soon but enjoy these days with the BBG. Sooo special!
Thank you... we are thrilled... a new runner in training
Yep, my own fault,, moving round the lounge with no lights on! I am a complete donk....last time I did this it was v painful.. and the sitting down is so uncomfortable.. have spent most of this afternoon, moving around, doing bits and doing the ten deep breaths every hour... ! Hoping it heals quickly!
Oh my goodness flossy. That sounds nasty and very painful. Do be careful and don't try and do too much. I am so glad to hear your granddaughter arrived, safe and well. Congratulations and best wishes to your daughter. I hope the birth wasn't too hard and she is feeling ok. How is the little one?
Thanks you x. The birth bit was quick, a few blips, but the end bit of the journey getting there was all ups and downs. My daughter and husband coped incredibly.. so proud of her
She is tired, but such a determined character.. and the little one, doing fine so far, has exactly that determined look too
Congratulations on becoming a Grammy! Wonderful news
Sorry to hear about your fall- timing, eh? Hope you have a speedy recovery and best wishes to you and all your family on the birth of your granddaughter. Xxx
Fantastic news about the little one's arrival Grammy Floss, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
So sorry to hear about your fall. Take it very very easy! I know you will be itching to cuddle your beautiful grand-daughter so hopefully your aches and pains won't stop you doing so.
Lots of love and congratulations to all of the family. Stay in touch xxxx
Congratulations Grammy Floss and also commiserations on your mishap, no funny posts please for the near future. Please keep up the good work you are an inspiration to us all.
So lovely to hear from you... are you still out there running Park runs?... I shall not be doing running posts for a while... But... I will be keeping tabs on folk
Congratulations floss! What wonderful news. But oh how terrible about the fall! Never broken a rib but I'm sure it's very painful. I promise not to make you laugh (intentionally). Take care of yourself.
Congratulations on becoming Grammy Floss (at last!) So pleased for you and your family. Welcome to Little Person, too! As for your fall, Oldfloss - ouch! I have cracked a rib in the past, so I know only too well how it feels when you do have to 'laugh, cough or sneeze'!๐ฉ Rest up well there and give your body plenty of time to heal. Most of all though, enjoy the arrival of your beautiful grand daughter! Xx
Thank you.. we are very, very happy. I shall be sensible..it is amazing how many of us have had cracked or broken ribs... at least it was not caused whilst running!
Massive congratulations Floss, that's wonderful news, and congrats to your daughter and son-in-law too.. I love the photo, too cute โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Such bad news about your ribs, that's certainly a very very painful injury you've managed to pick up. Speaking of picking up, will it stop you from picking up your new granddaughter? Really hope not!
Take care Floss, rest, rest and more rest- you know the drill. Maybe now's the time to write your Christmas cards and start crocheting baby hats and bootees. x
Congratulations Granny Floss! It's a bummer about the fall though - you look after yourself!!! No coughing or sneezing sounds ok, no laughing sounds not so much fun. You'll just have to spend all your time cooing over your new granddaughter! x
Oh floss! A mixture of emotions here! Happiness and joy for you and your new arrival and a ๐ face for your injury. What an absolute bummer. That sounds so painful so I'm sending you a big (gentle ๐ฉ) hug.
Here's hoping recovery won't take long and anyway you can now just sit and stare at your new grand-daughter ๐ค
Ouch! Did they give you strong pain killers? Could you sleep sitting upright? I think we have mice in the attic so I'm not sleeping well at the minute. We could keep each other company in the wee hours ๐
We could...that would be so cool๐ unfortunately I have some problems with pain killers..so a lot of the pain control is me..being brave๐ yoga breathing and writing stuff in my head..my husband has got loads of support pillows all ready for me ๐ Naughty mice..maybe they are cold.๐
Congratulations to you all. I just love that little outfit ๐ So sorry about your ribs though and no laughing till they heal - poor poor you but at least you will have your new little grand daughter to keep you smiling. Will miss your runs though ๐
Now be honest - did you do that on purpose so you'll have more time to cuddle the little one?!
You are a nutter, Floss! I bet your night's sleep won't be as bad as your daughter's! (Actually, from memory the first night home with my son was surprisingly uneventful with only one feed. That was the best night for the next 3 years, when no-one got any sleep. Hey ho).
Oh dear Floss, so sorry to hear about your accident, you poor thing But....Many, many congratulations and best wishes to you and your family - a new daughter/granddaughter, how delightful!
Thank you so much... I had a better night's sleep than i expected... and am determined to take it steady and be really useful again to our new beautiful babyx
Oh, what wonderful and painful news at the same time! Congratulations to you and your family, Grammyfloss! I am glad everything went well with the birth and I'm sure it won't be long until you are shopping for a baby jogger. Well, it will probably be a while actually, now that you have broken some of you ribs! What did you do that for, Floss?? Please be more careful!
The little one is doing well and is beautiful...she really is... I on the other hand.. am a little bruised and battered.. but will take it as we say, slow and steady xx Thank youx
Congratulations and I am so pleased for all of you. And I'm so sorry you have done yourself in. I suppose you can always tell the little one as she grows up that Granny was so excited to be a granny that you fell over!
Congratulations and commiserations in equal amounts! Be kind to yourself and don't get hooked on daytime TV! Would send hugs but that may hurt so sending strength instead x
Congratulation Grammy Floss and Little mum! the boys too of course! Glad she arrived all safe and well, overdue by a long way??!! Cute baby shopping while you're on the injury couch!???
What are you like, that sounds painful!!!
โTo hurt a rib once , Mrs Floss , may be regarded as a misfortune; to do it twice looks like carelessness.โ
Just thought of the "importance of being Ernest"quote and adjusted to suit! Get well soon Grammy, look forward to those snippets!
I am silly.. very silly and think I am immune to harm... Little one is a delight. She did keep Mum and Dad and us waiting... and it all got a wee bit exciting...but, hopefully things are settling down. Everyone has huge smile on their face...
I shall keep moving... but gently, do not want to seize up....and am planning a list of all the things i can do whilst crocked.. including supporting the new family
Ahh so nice that they live nearby and you will get to see loads of the little one! no babies in our family now but I remember how sweet they are when they are tiny (apart from the crying!!) But at least I could hand them back! ๐
Don't know why I thought of that play it just jumped in my mind! Yes you would make a great lady Bracknell!๐๐
I'm lazing around for a bit this morning. After my extreme over running( for me!)last week everything has been achy, especially one calf. Have had sports massage but still stiff, busy days at work last 2 days so am enjoying my lazy start to day off. Gentle parkrun tomorrow!
But my 100 mile medal arrived in post yesterday!๐
Big hugs lovely floss Grammy yellow stripy snail ๐xxx
Ooooo..pikkies of your medal please.. well done you !
A gentle run will be just the thing.. fortunately. my ribs are so achy this morning that running is the last thing I want to do.. so, have had a very gentle walk
Yes.. we are having a quick visit today, to drop some things off for them, but are letting them get settled without too much interruption... they need a little peace after the slightly tumultuous start little one and Little Mum had... we are on standby and are able to nip down whenever they need support. it is lovely
Hey Ali... just thought this might make you smile...., after being on my elliptical trainer today... the Grey Snail might have made a return, albeit temporary appearance... slow and steady... has taken on a whole new meaning.... but.. still standing and still smiling
OMG Oldfloss , we can't take you anywhere can we!?
I'm so sorry to hear of your fall and the cracked/bruised ribs. I've never done anything to mine (luckily), but I understand it is very painful indeed so I do sympathise with you. I wish you a very speedy recovery. Congratulations on becoming a Grandmother though. Nice one! x
No.. only take me twice, the second time to say sorry! I am a nut... but I shall take it slow and steady and head back to the running path.
The rib thing.. don't do it.... it is a painful thing with no real treatment... other than painkillers...unfortunately I have am not able to take strong medication... so... yoga breathing.. gentle movement...gritted teeth and a fixed smile. :_
Although, my beautiful new granddaughter means the smile is completely authentic Thank you x
Congratulations on being a Grammy! Sorry to hear about your rib escapade, verrrry painful (but I'm sure you know that :-D). Still, as you say, loads of time to do internet shopping. Heal well.
Congratulations on the little'un...how lovely to have a tiny girl to cuddle!
But ow ow ow on the ribs! Hope they heal fast for you..I've had friends give themselves similar injuries and it really didn't sound fun โน๏ธ But at least your beautiful granddaughter will be a grand distraction!
Big congratulations to all the family. How fantastic
I'm sorry to hear about your fall , my advice is that if you want to cough hold a cushion to your ribs , don't stop yourself from coughing , that's how you get infections. Hope you are feeling brighter soon
Congratulations Grammy Floss! What wonderful news.
The ribs though... ugh. I hope you heal quickly and have some good painkillers in the meantime. Actually I found two paracetomol and two ibruprofen every six hours (max dose) surprisingly effective for bones. I can't imagine what it must be like to hurt every time you breathe though. x
Well thank you x It is brilliant, we are all delighted.. and small one, already has a very determined look on her little face...
I have , unfortunately an allergy problem with some painkillers and am not able to take the stronger ones.. but... yoga breathing is really helping and just keeping moving.. but gently!
Sitting and sleeping can be the worst things.. so.. I stood up a lot yesterday and did not have too bad a night..thing is , as you well know, you forget just how much of your body is affected by one problem.., Ouch! I shall not be doing this again in a hurry.. my own silly fault.. but hey.. I have new one to heal quickly for !
Aw, sorry to hear about your misfortune - you must rest up and take it easy, but at least you have time now to lose yourself in a good book. I'm happy to hear that you are a grandma - congratulations! xxx
So you don't check the forum for 24 hours and what happens? Your inspirational role model smashes herself up and transforms into a Grammy. This is not the kind of behaviour we expect from teachers and wise people ๐ Huge congratulations on the Grammy bit and huge commiserations on the falling bit. Hope the pain eases off soon - it sounds horrendous. How do you sleep? Look after yourself and the Flosslet. You'll be back running by Christmas with a baby on your back๐
I know.. I simply cannot be trusted.. even at my age
I slept better than I thought,,, and although really stiff this morning, I am still smiling... every time I think of the new small one : She was quite late, but so worth waiting for
I did practice with the carry sling they got, even before she was born.. it is amazing.. cannot wait until she is big enough to be carried...
Congratulations on becoming Grammy Floss - lovely news, and I hope all is well with everyone
Ack for your poor ribs As you say, you know what to do. It's not easy doing it though - ribs are involved in so many things. Take it easy, dear Floss, however much you may wish to lift your new grandbaby!
All settling now and babe is holding her own.. noisily...
Yes... I will be steady... hopefully after two weeks, things will, if the last couple of times I did this.. is anything to go by, get slightly less painful! Mind I was good forty years younger then!
It is cute, they have loads of choice... Yes, i am a nitwit.. usually six weeks... but, if not too bad it starts to get less sore after a fortnight, as long as I stay sensible and don't go hiking stuff around.. so I will be slow and steady!
No boxing for a while... but a bit of gentle walking to keep me loose!
Oh! Great news floss or Granny floss, about the baby that is, I suppose you'll be out buying up mothercare. Congrats to you and your daughter & son in-law.
As for the fall, well, are you sure you wasn't just wetting the babies head?๐ I thought you may have had a fall like it before, being a climber, you must stop trying to save on electricity and put on your specs! Hugs! Oh! Better not, would be too painful! Have done that with slinky forgetting she's not long had chest operation..๐ฑ๐
Aw, Flossy.... I liked the post for the good news - Grammy Floss, the kid is so lucky to have a kick-ass Grammy like you Congratulations to Little Mum and her husband. Now, as for your nocturnal attempts at high-jump.... what on earth were you doing wandering around in the dark? It must hurt, you poor thing Gentle hugs coming your way. Even Gary says he hopes you get better soon.
Thanks you... the small one is a delight and already has a very determined set to her chin!
My own daft fault...got up ready for a run.... did not put lights on downstairs, despite the darkness.. tripped over a coffee table... ouch! It does hurt.. I have to be honest... but... serves me right!
I am plotting new routes, and looking at exercises I can do whilst I am rib-crocked!
Yer great noodle. Gary does have a soft spot - he's almost human today. He's been trying to cheer me up tonight and is even suggesting that we go for a run together tomorrow -Just found out that Calculus has been robbed and left with his computer and his credit card. They even stole the car. Now to work out how he's going to get home from the Mozambique channel without a passport. It's a long way to swim
Oh Mfam... no.... what a bummer.. ( can I say that ?)... it will get sorted.. but it will cause hassle to say the least... ! Chin up.... you will find a way... !
Well I have found bad language really helpful since I fell... and how! I am using words I did not even know I knew... good job we do not have close neighbours!
They stole my Canon, and the macro camera lens I bought with my prize money from a writing competition. Gary suggests that we go there, find them and force-feed them my trainers. Without ketchup.
Great idea.. cold andouillette too... avec sauce a la creme d'ail.... Buggers! Hope the stuff is insured too... know it is stinks.. but at least you can replace? I am getting to like this side of Gary!
I have a very good idea for where to put the andouillette. I'm not holding out much hope for the insurance - still looking for my receipt for my Canon, bought in 2010...
Right.. only chance if you don't find it.. do you keep past bank statements. (paper or online).. we had to use that to prove purchase only this week..for something bought a couple of years ago...
It was one of several purchases made simultaneously at the same store, so the total won't match. Ah well, I'll be able to tidy up my paperwork at the same time...
So very many congratulations on the baby news, Oldfloss! I've been waiting for this post Enjoy getting to know the new arrival!
Very sorry to hear about your accident, though - that really sounds very painful indeed! Crossing everything for as speedy recovery for you as possible.
Thanks Sarah.. she is a delight.. and already developing quite a character...
Yes.. it was my own silly fault... but... on the positive side, I have sneezed today, and it did not reduce me to tears!!! Yeay...mind I had a pillow at the front and was leaning against a cushion
I have been reading about what exercises I can do safely to keep from stiffening, and I am going to have a try very gently on my elliptical trainer.. have read on good running sites, that that will be okay... I shall see I am moving around, as I know from when I did this before ( rock climb fall).. it is best to rest intermittently and keep as active as possible... sleeping at night is the worst bit.. but hey ho...onward and upwards eh?
Congratulations Floss family, all the best to everyone! What a shame that you've hurt yourself at this glorious time. Hopefully you'll be on the mend soon. Do they have one of the running buggies for you to take baby Floss out once you're better?
Just seen this. Firstly congratulations on the new babe. Really sorry to hear of your traumas, hope it won't be too long til you are out and about again. Sure you will continue to amuse us all. Linda x
Oldfloss as always you never do things by halves! Huge, warm gentle hugs for your ribs lovely lady and swinging from the chandeliers, waving banners and whooping at full pelt for the arrival of the beautiful small one What joys await. So super happy for you all!
Oh thank you my lovely friend. The babe is a delight...I, on the other hand, am a clot... teach me to get ready for a run without putting the lights on ! Won't be doing that again...
I am trying to stay supple.. and doing some gentle exercises... got to stay fit, in order to keep up with the new small one! x
Ouch! Feel better soon! And congratulations on the new addition to your family
Only just seen this, congratulations!! Another new chapter in your life, a lovely happy one ๐. Hope the ribs are mending, those pesky things hurt just to breathe when damaged, and you can get back out running soon in the chill autumnal air.
Thank you so much.. yep.. another adventure.. what a special one too
The ribs.. slow and steady.. i have done my first 5K on my elliptical trainer this morning...very, very, very steady... not the wonderful great outdoors... but... keeping me fit.. I hope..( I had the door to my studio open to let the cold frosty air in
