Hello, just started W1 session 1 today after many good intentions but no real action! I found it hard but strangely enjoyable and felt great after! Hoping to get support and reassurance from this group that it does get easier - & I might enjoy it eventually! Ruth

Day 1 - the hardest run in many ways :) Stick with it - it does get easier and it does get more enjoyable, I promise :) Read as as many posts as possible here for guidance and support - especially the earlier ones of graduates where we all felt like we were mad to pursue the quest at some point or other :)

Happy running :)

Well, as a 45yr old, ex smoker for 5yrs now, having lost 1.5st in order to reduce the strain on my knees I completed a charity 5K today, x country, in just under 33mins. I never, never thought I could have done that just 3 months ago .. but now, I'm an enthusiastic but flailing runner who is starting parkrun & considering a 10K in 2017 .. so there is only one thing to say .. running is more mental than physical .. in my opinion .. slow, really slow is fine .. just keep going .. the body can cope with far more than you think if you let your brain relax and enjoy the moments of achievement - and they come with EVERY run be it a successful run, or "just" a practice run for next time .. well done for starting :)

Well done for starting you won't regret it. I started in April. Now regularly run 6K and feel great sense of achievement after every run. Couldn't run for a bus now running has become a good habit now like food and drink to me now. Get good advice here.

Congratulations!!! Well done for getting started. I'm just about to start week nine and it's been a roller coaster of a journey to here, but I've really loved it. I totally get what you mean by strangely enjoyable, that's how I feel about it still! For me it's always a challenge, but I feel great afterwards and more often than not I enjoy the actual run itself. This forum is Fantastic for advice, tips, support and encouragement. Just go slow and steady is what has stuck with me. Enjoy the rest of your running journey and let us know how you're doing. 😀🏃

Keep going - you won't regret it! It's the best thing I've done for myself in a long time. I have decided to tell the family I am going out for walks whilst secretly doing C25K - I can't wait to get to the end of wk9 (about to start wk 8 tomorrow) and be able to tell the family that I Can RUN for 30 minutes - feel like a kid waiting for Christmas !!!

Hi there Hidden and welcome! :)

Well, you've taken the bravest step by starting the plan, so well done for that! I for one, like a lot of others on here, had not done any kind of exercise since leaving school many moons ago and therefore struggled with the 60 second runs of week 1 and thought I would never be in a position where I could run for nearly half an hour non-stop. Yet, here I am on week 7 of the c25k plan and I'm doing just that! :)

As long as you stick to jogging as slow as you can, you will also progress through the plan, slowly building up your stamina and endurance until you will also amaze yourself by running for longer periods of time.

I would also recommend you get your gait checked out at a decent store that sell running/outdoor equipment and get a decent pair of trainers that are lightweight, comfortable and above all give good cushioning.

Good luck with the plan Ruth and please keep us all posted with your progress. Thanks! :)
