Hi all,

I have just downloaded the couch to 5k and this app!

I have done running before for about a year on and off and managed 5k on my local Parkrun but that was over a year ago. Now to get back into the swing of things and continue on my journey of turning my life around.

Any tips for this? Motivation is a big one for me, especially after a stressful day at work only to have to deal with attitude from my 11yr old daughter!! Lol

Need all the help I can get, I know I can do this though. Just need reminding every so often!!

Welcome. One bit of motivation that springs to mind instantly is that it’s a great way to avoid attitude from 11 year olds for a half hour 🤣

Set some goals... being back at parkrun? Running a 10k? Beating your PB? Whatever really... that will give you something to aim for.

Lots of great tips here in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which is quite a long read when you include all the links, but really does make this easier.

You can do this... enjoy your journey... see you on a parkrun start line some time!

That is definitely already on my motivation list-get away from the 11yr old attitude! Only she wanted to join me....then not....then maybe....then not right now I am on my phone(new to her!) but she does play football and will start training mon/wed so decided this will also be a good time for me to train.

Shame matches will be when the local parkruns are on! Typical!

Thanks for the link too. Saw this and though a read for tomorrow to help me get the motivation for my first run. Hopefully won’t be too warm!

Thanks for the reply!!

😊

Cooler Monday if it’s ridiculously hot tomorrow.

I managed to get my 12 year old to do this with me (actually, that’s a little bit of a lie, I’d been looking at it for over a year until she asked when we were starting 🤣) and then she stopped running... we’ve just done it again 2 years on, as my now 14 year old has discovered “love” and a lad who likes to run.

Keep it nice and slow... you’re gonna be fine.

Get into it. The space running has given me has helped my mental health.

Motivational tips from me are early morning runs! Like mega early before work and the daily grind wears you out. A good uplifting playlist that makes you want to dance will make you want to move at the speed of the beats, so you move a bit faster naturally, and also rest days! Do not skimp one rest day! Your recovery days are when you make the new fast twitch? Slow twitch fibres etc etc blah blah and makes you a better endurer come the longer runs x oh and drink 2-3 litres every single day especially the day before the runs, as low hydration makes for heavy legs like lead! X and enjoy the process and do not be afraid to repeat weeks, I’m week 8 on Monday and it’s taken since April to get here so I’m way off the 8 week programme x oh and slow! I think that’s everything! Don’t get me started on running shoes gait analysis and fitness watches!!!! X

Thanks for the tips and well done on not giving up!

Just knowing someone else is as slow as me is great motivation!

Eeek, excited to get started!

Mind you by the sounds of week 4 I might be changing my mind! 🤣😂

I thought that too, I kind of thought I will do this programme this time, but also just wanted to run so wasn’t that bothered at the start, but by week 4 when I eventually got there I was fully addicted and now I can’t imagine not running again! X programme is amazing they’re so clever and our bodies are just amazing fair play! X enjoy!

Any chance you can involve your daughter in some way? You say you want to change your life around, it would be easier if your daughter could have a stake in that as well and therefore encourage you with your runs. Not necessarily getting her running but encouraging her to help in some way and then explaining how a less stressed mum could be of benefit to her. I know I feel tired but triumphant after my runs, just starting week 2 and completed R1 this morning. Then the surge of energy comes after the shower and breakfast! Good luck with your daughter!

Thanks for the tip. I am lucky that I do have a good relationship with my daughter and we have already been chatting(must have been a good day for attitude 🤣).

She is excited to support me with the running.

It was suggested by her that she bike ride whilst I run bless her, definitely maybe one day! And a good goal to aim for too I think.
