Here's the pic from after the Town & Gown 10K on Sunday. Some of you will know that I ummed and ahhed over whether I should do this, I've just got back from France after quite a long journey, and I know from experience that the journey affects my performance for a few weeks, but as you can see I went for it! All the time I was making up my mind, I kept imagining a glorious, crisp, sunny Autumn day, the sort that Cambridge does so well...Umm no! I normally quite like running in the rain, but this was not very nice, horizontal at times and windy too...
We started at the back, Madge went on ahead at about 3 KM - I just couldn't keep up with her! I kept plodding along, it seemed ever such a long way! I haven't done many 10Ks and almost none nonstop without a little break to take a photo or something, so I was pleased with this.
That's me on the right, with Madge and her husband Rick our times were -
Me 1 hour 16
Madge 1 hour 11
Rick 54 minutes.
Of course I was in the old codgers age bracket, those two are obviously years and years younger than me! I checked my time on the Runners World age grade calculator, and if I wasn't so ancient my time would be equal to 1 hour 3 minutes, so I'm happy with that! In fact, I came down with a head cold that evening, so I'm rather surprised I managed to finish at all, never mind run all the way! I wasn't last either, in fact I managed to pass a few people, that's a first!
My Baldy came over to take some pictures and video of us crossing the line, he was watching carefully for us and thought he recognised Madge, goodness knows why as he's never met her....he rushed over to the finish line ready to capture our moment of glory, but the camera had switched itself of by then...he managed to turn it back on, but only got some footage of the floor doh! Not a total success lol! Thank goodness for Rick who got some lovely shots for me!
I thought the organisation was very good, and the volunteers need a medal too for standing there in that weather for so long. There was a point where the route overlapped, the marshalls were brilliant at making sure every one went the correct way - I still have bad dreams about the time I was misdirected at Parkrun!
I WANT Madges Space Invader leggings, aren't they cool?
