Making a change...

Hi all...

Just thought I'd post after downloading the C25k app.

I'm very overweight, very unfit and ready to change!

It's my goal to run a tough mudder and generally get my fitness back on track to run after my 2 year old!

So I downloaded the app and bought some running shoes (a tough find with size 15 feet!). Love how encouraging this place is and I can hopefully join in and keep you all up to date with my progress!

Hello! This is a lovely, supportive bunch of peeps. You'll be fine here

C25k podcasts or app, whichever, is a gentle introduction to running. Mostly walking, insterspersed with short, slow jogs for the first weeks. As long as you go really SLOWLY you'll finish the session. Finishing is important. Nothing else matters, eg speed, time, distance. So just think about getting through the session. It's fun by the way! So, smile and enjoy yourself. If you aren't enjoying it then slow down even more

Mudder is tough! However, we have many competitors here who have started off the couch with C25k same as you. We have Rig who is the resident tough guy, and he started where you are now. Read his posts as he is an inspiration to us all. If you keep plugging away you will get to where you want to be. It takes grit and determination though as you are trying to get fit and it takes time and patience

I ran a fell race this morning! I had never run before C25k, and was an obese, unhealthy mess with horrible joint pain. Reformed character now and running like a mad woman. I am 59 soon but feel better than I ever did

Clean up your diet at the same time and there'll be nothing to hold you back. Keep checking in with your progress and KEEP GOING!

Good luck !

It's a great feeling: that moment when it feels right to make the change. It is exciting, and you're eager for it to start. I certainly was. As misswobble says, take is slow. Sometimes you'll think you're going too slow. The programme doesn't just build up your endurance, it also makes sure you don't pick up an injury due to moving too quickly too soon. It is really enjoyable. It makes you feel a bit like a kid again. I'm looking forward to reading about your progress. Best of luck.

I have improved fitness so much by running and have now graduated, loving it. However, I have also put on a stone (having lost two before running) which is entirely my responsibility. I felt I could eat more when I was exercising and stopped tracking calories and portions. I recommend tracking and weighing food. There are free apps such as My Fitness Pal for example with helpful forums there. Now I need to keep running and stop over-eating LOL. All the best

Welcome to the community. Well done for making the decision to start the programme. You can do it. Take it nice and slowly and try and cut out the sugar from your diet.

Thanks for all the support already! Just waiting for my shoes to be delivered then I can make a start! Going to do my first run early in the morning before work so it'll be dark and less people will see me struggling/puffing and crawling home!

So after a lot of setbacks including my own motivation and anxiety issues amongst other factors, this morning I completed Week 1 Day 1 of C25K!

I can't say it was easy, but kept going through the wind and rain and felt awesome after doing it! Legs are feeling it a bit now, but taking that as a positive and actually looking forward to Wednesday now!!

Well done on getting started. In many ways W1R1 is the hardest of them all.

Slow and steady is the way.
