I still can't believe that I did that 20 min run (jog) this morning. I was going slow towards the end but feeling incredible! Only snag is that the outside of my hip has starting aching after the last 2 runs. It usually settles the next day but annoying. Any suggestions as i want to be able to continue?

Do you stretch the area?

Tilt your pelvis forward, tightening your gluteus muscles (the muscles in your buttocks). Then lean away from the side of your hip that hurts, for instance to the left if you're kneeling on your right knee. You should feel a stretch from the top of your hip bone down the side of your leg to your knee...😊 btw well done!

Jan, You need to stretch after running make sure your warmed up before you stretch. Look after your legs & hips and they'll look after you for running.

I had these aches & pains as a new runner, until I started stretching more. I'm always moving my legs & feet and doing small stretching & clenching muscles even while sitting or laying down.. keeps things supple & mobile..

Have you thought about doing yoga or Pilates? If you can't get to a class there are some great videos you can download for free from the net and they don't have to take long. A lady I know from dog walks swears by 15 mins a day yoga stretching!

I've had lots of back / hip issues and have found Pilates fantastic - in the classes and giving me ideas for stretches which help. It does have to be a good Pilates teacher though - with a small enough class to watch what you're doing. Or there are some great DVDs x

Thanks everyone. Have tried both in the past, so maybe time to pick one of these up again.

I really appreciate the advice and support from this page. x
