Day after w5r3 seized up!

My legs are seized and stiff this morning despite doing my usual stretches before and after my run. I even went for a swim in the afternoon to loosen the old muscles but I'm walking about like I've got two broken legs today!

I (literally) feel your pain! I was a little like that when I first woke up, but have loosened a bit now.... until I sit down for any period of time! But my right hamstring feels super tight as well.

Maybe a bit longer warming up tomorrow before R1 of W6 and a nice hot bath when you get back?

Take an extra rest day if you need to.

Too fast maybe.. keep moving and don't give the muscles chance to seize up more...

Well done for getting this far.. and now, start moving forward slowly and make sure you are upping your rest day exercise too.. core strength and stamina need work as well:)

For the longer runs my own strategy is to avoid a loop. I basically do a run "out" for the initial walk/run and then a long walk back at the end. Seems to have helped with getting any soreness so far.

I think I read somewhere that grown up runners recommend doing really long walks after those inhuman distances they run. Or maybe I dreamed that.

Key for me is to keep moving afterwards...

I guess it’s a massive warm down . I did that run in a different park as I’m getting bored of running about that bloody graveyard so I walked to a park a bit further away, started the podcast half way there and started the run as I entered. I then did my five min warm down on the way back but that was a 10 min walk back to the house.

I seem to be fine now 🤔. All very weird . Maybe I over did it with the swim after the run . All ready for wk6r1 tomorrow.

Dehydration? Just a thought. I’m more achey than usual at present. It’s hot at the moment and can be hard to keep drinking enough - I gather it’s the general level of hydration that’s important not drinking immediately before during or after a run (though I guess that can’t hurt when it’s hot).

W5R3 👎🏼

Felt very intimated by this run. Week 5 runs started badly with the dog fiasco (see previous post!)...
