Ok, so I graduated 11 months ago and I've run countless times over 5k and considerably more since. But tonight I run in an official event for the first time and I am unbelievably nervous about it!
Tonight sees the 10th running of the Great City Race, a 5k around the streets of the City of London and I'm representing my company along with 15 others. I've never run with anyone but myself before..... It all hit home when I received my official team shirt and my number yesterday. I've had butterflies ever since and I didn't sleep very well last night. I'm not at all concerned about the distance and I can see from last years results that I won't be trailing in at the back (but certainly nowhere near the front!) so I've no idea why I'm suddenly turning to jelly.
Wish me luck... I'll report back tomorrow.

Good luck Rob hope it is a good evening and you have ball. Nerves still get the better of me, like you graduated just over a year ago - and done loads of official runs but still jittery before the race gets started.
I'm wishing you lots and lots of luck, and I know you will be fine!
It's something new and different and nervousness is natural but I bet you will be fine once you get there and the nervousness will turn to excitement. And after that first stride you will be off...
Good luck Rob, I'm sure you'll smash it. Are you nervous or excited? The two feelings are exactly the same - adrenelin flowing, higher heart rate etc it's only your head telling you it's nerves it may just be you're imagining crossing that finishing line and jumping around.
I ran my first race on Sunday and I was nervous. I ended up getting there very late which left me no time at all to worry, so maybe that should be the plan. I just had time for a quick wee before the off. 5k will be over before you know it! You have colleagues to run with so you'll be fine. If that's not fine then leave them behind, or let them go ahead. It's your race so just try and have fun.
Good Luck ! I am sure it will be fun and once you have set off you will be fine. You may even find you enjoy running in a crowd.....
I felt exactly the same when I did my first race. I got myself in a real state for days before just thinking about it . I think it was because I thought they would be all REAL runners but as soon as I started I loved it and realised actually I was a real runner too. So accept you are probably going to feel jelly like until start line and then I bet you you'll settle down Just take heed of Miss wobble and run your own race and don't get swept away with faster colleagues. Look forward to your next post telling us how you got on Good luck
Good Luck Rob, you are more than capable of doing this ,you have proved that . Just go at your own pace , its your race, Good Luck , get this one under your belt and there will be no stopping you xxx
I walked some of the course on my way to the office this morning... Its on my normal route. They're putting barriers up along the side of the roads just so that this old bloke (me) can jog 3 miles! Its in aid of Seeing is Believing, supporting avoidable blindness. Not that I work for one, but although the banks in the city get a bad rap a lot of the time, this is going to generate some serious money and change lives.
Good luck Rob! I've just ran 10K, on my own, and I'm increasingly being told I should enter a race. But I really don't want to! Very much understand your nerves, but so many people do these races and that must be for a reason.
Try and enjoy it, I'm sure you will once you get running, and let us know how you get on
Good Luck I am sure you will love it, nerves are good, it means you are excited about being able to run your best, just take a few deep breaths and enjoy the moment, don't let it overwhelm you........can't wait to read the race report xx
GOOD LUCK ROB! You'll be fantastic. Just imagine how good you are going to feel at the finish! You are going to be more than a little bit special if the barriers are going up to keep YOU safe [Think TdF and all those supporters]. Hope you have a truly mind blowing experience. Must be very special part of your life journey - running around the Capitals streets! Have fun - HAPPY RUNNING!
Absolutely do wish you luck. But you know you can do it and my guess is you will be swept along in the atmosphere and really enjoy it. Let us know how it goes!
