Gait Analysis
Yes, If your using shoes which are unsuitable then you will most likely get aches & pains in the feet up the legs and into the hips. You run on a treadmill and they take a video clip of your feet and how they land on the ground, which you'll be able to see.The link explains it better, all you ever need to know about running shoes..runningforfitness.org/book/...
I've had one done and found I overpronate, so needed a pair of stability shoes, which are built up on the inner edge of the heel, but my wife recently had one done and found she only pronated very slightly which didn't warrant having to change to a stability shoe and is classed as neutral, so she has a normal looking heel, but she needed new shoe's as they were getting rather worn & ragged and started getting blisters a lot even with good running shoe socks, plus she wanted a flash colour..😊
Definitely! I discovered that I land on the insides of my feet, and got fitted with a pair of 'stability' shoes. They're lovely, and made a big difference to the twinges I was getting.
Yep
What's to lose? You learn more about your gait, it's free and you are not obliged to buy their shoes.
Well yes, cos it's free and it will tell you how you pronate. Some folks think it's all baloney and just go for a neutral shoe. Just go for it and see what they say. You don't have to buy their shoes or pay for expensive insoles, but it's worth it just to see what they can tell you. They will want to sell you current shoes but you can ask to see older models once the gait analysis is done. Go to a dedicated running shop! The staff will be runners themselves.
Yes, for all the reasons given above. Also it's really interesting to see your running style in slow motion on the video playback
Yes
I saw the physio today and now have to rest for 4-6 weeks due to an injury she is putting down to running in cheap shoes. I recommend you do it as I'd hate for you to end up in my position. I keep thinking, if only I'd done it sooner I would have to sit out for so long
It is really interesting to see yourself running on the replay and you get to talk shoes with someone who knows a thing or two about running and shoes. You may not decide to buy from the shop or to wait if what you already have turns out to be good enough. Nothing to lose by going.
I had no idea that special running shoes even existed when I started C25K, and was running in ordinary trainers. I got shin splints in week 2, trust me, you do not want to go there....I found this forum and everybody said to go for the gait analysis, and guess what? They were right, a couple of weeks rest, some new shoes and bye bye shin splints...yes go.
Thanks for the advice. My old trainers are definitely on the way out and I have stepped up my training. Guess it's time for a visit to the running shop and some posher trainers.
Absolutely, I couldn't get past week 5 without one or other of my knees giving up on me forcing several weeks rest each time. Gait analysis, new shoes and I've just graduated with not even a twinge! Go for it!
