Happy today. Had the best sprint ever.

Usually I run for an hour to 90 min and wind up with a very short sprint, just to finish on a bit of a flourish. Yesterday was one of those difficult runs due to lack of sleep, so I called it a day after 50 min, stopped on a wrought iron bridge to admire the view and do some leg stretches, then decided to do a short sprint but my, oh my. I was not expecting it but I could really run fast and enjoyed it so much, I just kept running for I'm guessing here , maybe 400 metres. How alive do you feel after an all out sprint?! Fab-u-loso :) So I kept smiling all day. Gotta love running, just keep throwing something different in the mix.

It just kind of happened. It actually feels really liberating to run full out for a change. Was definitely out of breath afterwards though.

Yeay!!!!!!!!!!!! Go you speedy girl...Loving that smile :)

It is so great to shake it up isn't it.... ?:)

I am thinking the sprints could be the next thing, especially in this humidity.. short, fast and sweet!

Well done you... especially after a long run ... awesome!:)

I even went and googled a light athletics club because I actually really enjoyed the buzz of it. Funny thing was a guy I knew a couple of years ago when he was completely non athletic and overweight (but cuddly and amazing nontheless and the type of guy all the kids run to for a hug) is now a running coach there. Amazing how running can transform lives.

Nor would we want to floss 😉

He is completely unrecognisable. But that happens when you pretty much half your size. Lean is the word. My daughter said she preferred him before when he was a great big, cuddly bear. I suppose it made him seem more approachable. He looks great now though, super fit. Amazing achievement. I really admire him for it.

He sounds.... very attractive...:)

But seriously, the change for folk is incredible, when you read some for the posts on here...quite literally life changing :)

Sounds fabulous. And there's you thinking you'd done enough! Go you.

boptillyoudrop49 profile image
boptillyoudrop49Graduate in reply toIrishprincess

I know, I was thinking, oh well stuff it, I've run enough but after hanging about on the bridge for a bit, I felt like doing a short quick burst to finish off. I could actually get into running short distances fast which is weird because I've always felt my running persona is the long distance loper.

Irishprincess profile image

You can do both! That's the beauty of this running thing. We can do what we want 🤗

And on that note, I'll admit that I'm being a bit naughty and running on my rest day. Heading into the forest now to run around the Grunewald lake, naked bathers and all. Have been meaning to do this for a while. Happy running y'all!

We're all happily a bit madder for knowing our floss. Cracks me up to think of her running backwards!

boptillyoudrop49 profile image

Found out today it is actually a designated naked bathing spot. Have always wondered when I've seen them there, thought they were just having an uninhibited moment. It is always funny when you get American tourists there because when they first catch sight of the naked bathers, sunning themselves and strolling about, their eyes nearly pop out of their heads, then their glanes cross as if to say, did you see that?! As courteous and respectful as they generally are, they struggle and you can see them scrupulously trying to avoid looking at the bodies and under no circumstances saying anything about it but they reallydo not get it.

You might like fartleks for any speed sessions you have. They are very fun.

boptillyoudrop49 profile image
boptillyoudrop49Graduate in reply torunswithdogs

I've seen them mentioned a few times but don't really know how they work (or why they have such a strange name). I'll look them up

runswithdogs profile image
runswithdogsGraduate in reply toboptillyoudrop49

A lot of people do speed runs once per week and set specific time intervals to run faster. With fartleks you pick up the speed for as fast as you like, for as long as you like. For example, maybe you start off really slow. Then you run super fast between two light poles, then slow down for six parked cars. It's just running like a kid again. It's hard work, I walk a lot during them, but they're great fun.

Thanks rwd! I'll try that. It is brilliant to try out something new with running

That's for sure. I bet everyone finishes a race with a spurt. You just have to do it, don't you? Actually that reminds me I need to sign up for an 8k race which is sometime very soon!

Amazing. I am going to have to try that!

Check it out. It feels good. I always finish with a short sprint but having just read Curly's post below, it might make sense to always rest a bit before doing it.

Yes, a little break like that, and I'm ready to sprint! I often plan the last, say 400 - 600 mts as a sprint, just like you, but I like a little break first.

boptillyoudrop49 profile image
boptillyoudrop49Graduate in reply toCurlygurly2

I never thought of taking a break first because I just saw it as part of the run and not a separate thing but I can see how it would work to have a short break first. I'll do that on tomorrow's run.

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate in reply toboptillyoudrop49

Lots of people take a walk break, that doesn't really work for me, (I posted in bridge to 10K about this a couple of weeks ago) I prefer to come to a stop for a short time. I noticed if I stop to take a photo or change my music I felt better when I started again, it's like a new lease of life! Good luck with that!

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate in reply toCurlygurly2

If I can, if it's not uphill, I always try to finish on a sprint, it certainly gives you the high!

boptillyoudrop49 profile image
boptillyoudrop49Graduate in reply toCurlygurly2

Ok good point. I rule out sprinting uphill to finish! Flipping heck.

Curlygurly2 profile image

I live at the top of a steep hill....It was in the Bridge to 10K community, are you in that one? If not you should be if you can run for 90 mins XX

Woo Hoo , Look at you ! :-)

Well done Bop, blimey a sprint finish eh ? I would LOVE to do that, I only ever did it once at a Parkrun to try and shake off a 8 year old who had been playing cat and mouse with me the whole way around the course . Needless to say, he left me for dust and I felt as if I was going to throw up . Ha ha that'll teach me :-D

Great post Bop, you are now officially a " racing snake " :-) xxx
