Running with dogs: Part 2

So I've had a go with the little one. (More energy to burn)

Got us a hands free lead and apart from some excited lead biting (her, not me), we eventually got into a good pattern.

Just started week 2 tonight so Meggy is progressing with me.

Looking forward to getting into the longer runs with her. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Lead sounds good. I just need another dog who is young enough to run. If I post this often maybe my Hubbie will take pity and agree!

when my 2 oldies were going downhill, i persuaded hubby to get a younger one from the cat and dog home, best thing i did, they perked up right away and i got another year out of the Rottie, and my old staffy is now almost 14, when i had to let the Rottie go i went and got another youngie, go on ..nag him...it will be good for your running

i saw someone with the hands free lead, my dogs got tangled up in it, totally my fault, thought the dog was loose and let mine run on the long led, almost toppled the poor girl over, she was ok about it, i watch more carefully now, youre doing great , rain, no, make that monsoon is stopping our runs :(

Jack Russell types are hyper but they are not built for distance running. She should be fine for now though โ˜บ

Have fun ๐Ÿ˜Š

I run with my boy - I thought I'd finally be keeping up with him but he just goes even faster. I run off road so he's just off-lead but if I need to put him on then I just hold the lead in my hand. If I start doing more road-running or longer distances then I might get a "hands-free" lead but I'm concerned about the lack of control that might offer?

One of the reasons I got it early on is that I'm hoping the dogs will associate it with a running walk instead of the usual strolly sniffy walk. Plus I'm running on the pavement and don't trust her off lead near traffic.

I've only used it once now on a week 2 run. At first she wanted to bite it but a couple of the runs in, she got the picture. I only had a problem when I cut through one of the places I walk the dogs. Then it instantly became a "fun" walk and she nearly had me tangled.

I'll see how tonight (weather permitting) goes and see if she improves over a few more.

I think it could be worth getting one but ultimately it depends on the dog.

Did you get the lead online or from a shop?
