Injured! Learning the hard way.

I wrote on here a while back when I have just started week 2. I had agonising pain in my legs which I thought were shin splints. This developed into knee pain and wasn't shin splints at all. I've been struggling to get up the stairs the pain was that bad. So on Sunday I asked one of the orthopaedic surgeons I work with what the hell I'd done and he examined the knee and said I have medial collateral ligament sprains in both my knees. Absolutely GUTTED. I was just getting into the running and it made me feel so much better! I now can't run for 6 weeks which is no good as I booked a 5k colour run for the 10th July :( wish I'd have got some advice before I started. So I'm going to concentrate on strength ing my quads and legs before I start again. Roll on 6 weeks 😁😁

Sorry to hear that - how nice to have an expert on hand. Running is a lifetime project so this is just a temporary setback. Work hard on those strengthening exercises!

That's rough, but as Ullyrunner says, this is a lifelong habit, so don't let this blip get you down. In the meantime, to keep up your fitness, you could try swimming and do some kind of challenge to build core strength.

You could still do the colour run, but walk it with friends, a slower target will get more paint the the t-shirt will look better, plus you'll still be able to enjoy the day.
