Week 4 run 1 today, first 5 minutes I thought I couldn't do this, but stuck with it even with laces undone as I didn't want to stop... Got back home and so pleased with myself

Rest up tomorrow and then run 2 on Wednesday .... I really need to do this .... Can I ask are people running or just jogging at a nice pace comfortable pace

Slow and steady! Speed is not important at this stage. The programme is about getting up to 30 mins of running. We always call it running, no matter how slow we are!

Evening heledw,

Well done!

I can't speak for anyone else, but even now that I've graduated I wouldn't class what I do as running - just jogging at a nice comfortable pace for the most part (though I do occasionally put a bit of a spurt on). :-)

I think the most important thing is to run at a pace you're comfortable with, and not to take it too quickly as otherwise when it gets to the longer runs you'll run out of steam. The aim of the programme is to get you running (or jogging or whatever) for 30 minutes, which you will do. Some people can manage 5k in 30 minutes and a lot (including me) haven't managed that even after graduating. But it doesn't matter - what matters is that you're moving and you enjoy it and it's obviously giving you a real sense of achievement - which is great!

Slow jog for me and I mean slow! Lol

I've read enough times on here to know slow and steady is the way to go :)) plus I want to get the times done and not keel over from trying to run any faster than I can x

Well done heledw on ignoring the gremlins, and the laces, and completing the run.

Slow and steady wins the race.

I'm "running" (and I'm sure its not just me) at a laughably slow pace.

It's just about gradually building up your stamina- whatever is comfortable for you, and then slowed down a bit.

The wiser people here will tell you the same.

Once you've finished C25K, then you can gradually work on building up a faster pace, if that's what you want.

I'm not sure if I'm running or jogging, my legs are moving and my pace is quicker than when I'm walking ... I'm going to call it running lol

But my legs don't seem tired, although I now think that's because I work on a psychiatric ward 14 hour shifts and I'm on feet all day, so think I have strong legs ... It's the out of breath I need to conquer

I'm looking forward to day 2 to see if improve on today's "run"

Thank you for your messages, it's been tough in my personal life and even though I'm lonely .. The support here is helping me through

Yeah, we all call that funny slow shuffle "running" too. :)

Your breathing will sort itself out, you don't need to think about it. I was really struggling at first, but it'll just click into place.

Strong legs - you've got a head start on most of us already. :)

I know from friends working in the same field, that your job is really hard work- a lot harder than running. Fair play to you. Chin up!

Hi Helen,

Its just a gentle jog, don't worry about speed and distance, its really not important . Slow and steady will keep you going onto Graduation. Its all about building up stamina at this stage.

Good Luck ! :-) xxx

What everyone else said, sometimes it feels like I'm not going any faster than when I'm walking! I'm going to work on speed once I can run the 5k/30 mins

Well done Heledw I did wk4r1 this morning, and like you found it tough but kept go, I am definitely jogging at a comfortable pace, I just want to achieve being able to run 30 mins non-stop, anything else will be a bonus afterwards. If I achieve it then I will look at speed.

I was very pleased with myself too - my next run is weds too - good luck with yours let me know how you get on.😃

Well done for keeping going! It's hard to push through when you really want to stop but the feeling is great when you do and it does get easier. Like Laura says, really pushing through is where you build your fitness. Keep going, you're doing brilliantly!

As everyone else says, go slow, work through the programme and then you can work on speed later. Like most, I doubt I'll be anywhere close to 5k on graduation but will hopefully build up to it.

I don't know how far I actually go on my run/walk programme, I may try to upload an app and see what total distance is covered ... All I know is that after the last run I secretly smike and think you did this .... No one can take that feeling away from you ....

If it stays nice thou I'm investing in a pair of shorts ... As legs were soaking in long pants today lol

Thank you once again for support

I don't like the 'j' word!

It sounds like something you should be doing with minimal effort. Every part of my body is giving its all when I run!!

In the whole scale of runners I am definitely at the slow (jog) end but both my feet are off the floor at some point and therefore I am a runner!

I wanted to know my distance and pace etc too so I completely get your interest but honestly, with just a few weeks hindsight, it doesn't matter. Just keep building the time you can run for, it is more important.

Good luck :)

Totally agree , I'm not wanting to know my pace, I think as this is called couch to 5k I thought it would be good to see if I get anywhere near this during these podcasts
