Thinking about first park run.

I am back over in the UK on the 10th of June. If I can get the time off I am thinking of doing my first park run on the 11th (I work an erratic six day week) at St Albans. But I haven't yet ran anything near 5 k and I am going to be right at the back, can I improve from my current 3.5 slow jog between then and now? So far my post grad two runs have been 33 mins, and a slow 30 mins. There is no real reason to aim for the 11th, I am there for three weeks and then I move to Wellington college for six weeks. It is a question of 'do I need a target now I have finished the course'?

hi there,

I've never done a park run so I'm probably not the best person to reply. However people on here really talk well of them.

If you cannot run the whole 5k -- I think it would be ok to do a walk/run--sometimes this can be faster than running.

.

Good luck and enjoy your stay in England. I think summer is here :)

I am planning on doing park runs once I graduate, I think they will be helpful with motivation. Only you know whether you personally need a target, but hey, it can't hurt to try can it?

I'm not a parkrun expert but if you look up the finish times of the run you plan to do, you may be pleasantly reassured. You can certainly make a bit of progress in the next 4 weeks or so ( think of progress from week 5 to 9!) and even if you run for 30 minutes and walk the rest, you'll finish. The tail runner will be behind you and probably some others. It'll give you a lovely baseline against which to progress.

Good luck.

I have been thinking about progress. I am so stunned by the difference 9 weeks has made to my body and mental attitude. What would a year be like? 5 years? The rest of my life?
