today, i have done w1 r2, was not expecting such progress so quickly but im definitely not complaining. i think i may have caught the bug and now cant wait to go back out again and ive only just got home. my question is, I know its normal to get muscle ache but is it normal to get aching shins? they seem to be hurting the most.
is this pain normal?: today, i have done w1 r... - Couch to 5K
is this pain normal?
I had that but I'm on w4 now and I don't get it now. I found slowing down a bit helped and shortening the stride.
I had that for the first few weeks but don't get them anymore think it was just my body getting used to it but they would usually be ok for the next run, if i needed to i would take an extra rest day before doing the next run though
that sounds like a good idea, i honestly didnt think i would make it today with it being so painful but it didnt even bother me whilst running. how long ago did you graduate?
Like the others, I also experienced shin pain in the very first weeks. I would suggest running on soft surfaces if you can and slowing down a bit.
Have you got trainers with plenty of cushioning? Agree with slowing down and looking at running on softer surfaces as suggested above too.

Well done! Yep! Tiny bit in early weeks, as others are saying, slow down a tad, try & control the pace.. Keep at it! Your doing great!😊
Go to the pinned posts and search out the NHS Choices guides to how to run and stretch correctly. The advice on there is really good and may sort out your aching shins. Good luck
Slow and steady is the way... your body has to get used to this new exercise
Think snail on a go-slow... you are doing fine..just keep onwards and upwards
well done!! I get shin pain too some times (a lot more at the start) Like everyone says slow down a little. I also noticed that I was running too hard on my heals so when it starts i slow a little and try to be more aware of how my feet are hitting the ground - hope that make sense
Hi are you doing the stretching exercises afterwards. They are very important. Take your running a bit easier for a while. speed comes later by itself. I tried walking for ten minutes at the start instead of the normal five. As you are a beginner it really helps. Good luck keep going. You can do it if I can so can you.
