Well the programme builds up very gradually so you could always give it a go and see how you go on. I had arthritis in knees but have lost a couple of stone and have not had any problem with them due to running. If you are in any doubt pay a visit to your GP who could advise you properly.
I really don't know but I hope you will be able to get back into running. The training programme takes you through in gradual stages (although it doesn't always feel so gradual). Check with your GP and if you get the green light, why not just try it? You can always adjust the programme, going more slowly, repeating runs etc to get to the end injury free but I suppose you need a medical opinion on the wisdom of starting now with the arthritis.
Comfortable shoes, staying off hard surfaces and addressing the weight through dietary means as well as running should see you right.
The key thing is that you've got the urge to run.
Some folks here have been told by medical personnel that they'll "never run again"' but they carried on running because they love doing it. I'm not suggesting you ignore medical advice but it's amazing what your body can do when you really set your mind to it.
hopping to start soon just getting my gear to gether got a bit of fluid on my right nee
Get yourself checked out with an all clear to run, if you have any doubts.
Then slow, and even slower... the old joints will protest a bit, but if you take it very steadily.. there should be no problem!
