Hi guys. I'm totally new to this and feeling nervous. I've joined in the hope of loosing some weight and improving my fitness. Ran a 10K about 3 years ago but let my fitness completely slip and now I find myself very unfit and overweight. I am starting the 12 week weight loss plan but I intend to apply for the navy and want to get my fitness to peak areas and would love to be able to run as that's part of the test. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
New to this and very nervous.: Hi guys. I'm... - Couch to 5K
New to this and very nervous.
Good for you!
Nothing to be nervous about! This is a great program. Just go at your own pace and have fun with it
Hi Gem! I'm not sure I can offer much in the way of 'technical' help, being a new runner too, but I've just finished week 1 and I can honestly say there's nothing to be nervous about. The fact that you're here and willing means you're already a rockstar!
I know that it can seem daunting, I have done literally no formal exercise for YEARS and I wasn't sure if I might seriously embarrass myself. The programme is really encouraging and definitely not too challenging. You'll get out of breath and feel a bit hot and bothered, but the sense of achievement at the end of each run far outstrips that. Let us know how the first run goes for you, good or bad, and you'll get tonnes of encouragement and tips and advice. You'll do it, have confidence in yourself - you've done it before after all!
Welcome to the board Gem !
I think most of us felt very nervous about taking up this programme , but I thoroughly recommend 100%
Download the podcasts and give it a whirl ! There is a fantastic support network here , very very friendly supportive people who will help in any way they can.
Remember its just a gentle jog, no pressure to complete in the 9 weeks , if you need to repeat any run its fine .
If you have done 10k in the past , I am sure you will get into the swing of it. Believe in yourself, you can do this .
Good Luck ! xxx
.. Go slow - Seriously, it is much better for you and you will feel much better by keeping your speed down. If you have a heart rate monitor you can use that to find the right amount of effort you should be making - it's less than you think!
Enjoy
Gem, If it's any consolation my wife is on w4 and at 61 not finding it too bad. Highly recommend you give it a go, it will really set you up for fitness in The Navy. The weight will really start to come off as you go through the programme, and are able to run constantly and often..with a balanced diet..😊
