Welcome to c25k. Do it, it is the single nest most wonderful thing you can do. Well maybe not.

But in seriousness, it is really simple and so gradual an increase that anyone can do it, you won't regret it. Get those laces done up and go for a run. You won't regret it.

That was a very gentle kick, thank you. I've planned to start tomorrow. Will let you know how it went lol

So did you start it yet.? ☺ Don't delay, start today, it's the best thing since sliced bread!

I had never run the length of myself but now I can't stop.  Jog group later ☺

How long ago did you graduate? I haven't run since leaving school (long time ago) and get stitch just running for the bus, so am nervous/embarrassed but have decided to start tomorrow - gulp

Keep posting you progress, it does help with the motivation and advice.

I reckon you've started the right way.

This forum is great for support and advice- and kicks up bum's!!

You obviously want to do it, you've prepared the podcast and have posted here so make time to get out there, get the gear on and go for it :)

Advice is always- slow and steady. S l o w and if you find yourself struggling to finish a run section then go even s  l  o  w  e  r!

Trust the program, you'll find the right pace for you and your stamina increases at a ridiculously surprising rate. Rest days are as important as run days and if something starts to niggle then consider an extra rest day to avoid injury. A week does not have to be a set 7-day time frame, the main importance is 'regular'.

I started in the last week of January, had a few hiccups along the way but am due to do my final run and graduate tomorrow :)

Good luck :)

Stop posting excuses and get out there.

That was a big kick - ouch...... 😆

I had never run, never worn trainers or lycra ☺ I took myself off to the local country park and just did what laura told me to do.  She literally tells you exactly what to do and when.  She is lovely and kind ☺

I think the worst thing was donning the lycra pants 😲

jt24 profile image
jt24Graduate in reply tomisswobble

I'll second that ;) 'Getting over myself' took a few weeks I have to admit. Bright red, sweaty, heavy breathing AND in lycra still isn't pretty but my confidence is through the roof now, I don't care anymore :)

Yep. That'll be me tomorrow 😂😳

... Minus the confidence

You'll get it :) Plod through those first couple of weeks and all kind of mad running stuff starts jumping in your mind, next thing you know you're actually kind of looking forward to getting out there on to the next one again! I don't particularly like the running bit when I'm doing it, I just really enjoy the time inbetween when I feel great knowing I've bagged another plod and am actually 'achieving' something!

I was curious to know what is your motivation?

Losing weight? Improved health? Becoming more toned and trim? Summer beach body? More active lifestyle? Stronger and more flexibility? Relieving stress? Greater mental strength? Making new friends?

Once you know what you want to achieve, getting started is easier.

Running will give you All of the above.

Gentle enough for you? Start right now. And let us know how you get on.

I became ill just over 2 years ago and somewhat housebound.  Up to that point I was reasonably healthy. I'm slowly getting better but I'm so out of shape that it's hindering my progress. Joining the gym 5 months ago was a waste of money, I never went! This 9wk course with a whole community to go with it seems perfect. Motivation is my biggest barrier at the moment. Thanks for all the replies it has really helped. I'll update tomorrow 'after' my first run/walk x

If motivation is your bigger barrier, finding a running buddy or joining a local running club could help.

On the other hand, as Rig often writes, "action precede motivation" (or something like that); sometimes you just have to give it a go and the motivation will follow.

Welcome to the madhouse, Deb. DO IT. I have as much self-discipline as a 4-year-old in a Cadbury's warehouse, so if I got hooked, anyone can. Take one day at a time, and report back here each time so that we can cheer you on. Make sure you've got a decent pair of shoes and a running bra, then off you go!

do it, do it, do it!!! (this is your virtual kick up the bum) : )

It can feel pretty daunting at first but as the weeks go on you'll gain more and more confidence. I'm only on week 5 so far but the difference between what I could do in week 1 compared to now is incredible - it really does work, good luck!

Only week 5 ???!

That's some serious running you have under your belt! 🏃🏻👏🏼

Yes Deb! GET OUT THERE!   If your healthy GO FOR IT! you'll reap the benefits of your effort's. It'll be tough at times, be prepared to put up with some little aches & pains, (NO PAIN NO GAIN!) and some mind gremlins saying, you shouldn't be doing it or I don't want to do this, as long as your not in any bad pain just push them aside. My wife is out there on week 3 at the moment, never done any running before, she's 61... Keep us posted with your progression. Discipline & Determination please! 😊

Here's another gentle kick! Get out there! I was really scared when I started four weeks ago and soooo unfit the one minute runs were a struggle. Now I can do five minutes which I am very proud of. Just trust Laura and follow what she says and go slowly. Even more slowly than you think possible !!!  Good luck your new friends here are all rooting for you!!

This is the best thing you will do for yourself! The one minute runs were a struggle with week 1...now I'm ready to graduate after my next run. The programme works, and honestly THAT is the best motivation - seeing and feeling yourself get fitter. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing your posts keeping us updated.

Hey Debvb ! How is it going? Have you got out for your first run yet? I know it seems scary, but you really will be fab, Laura is a wonderful coach, and I personally find the music so cheesy it makes me chuckle as I run!

I absolutely second everyone who says don't give a money's uncle about what you look like in lyrca or how red and sweaty you get.  This isn't about looks but how you feel, and trust me, you will feel ace after getting out there and trying it.

Keep us updated yeah? I am going to keep posting my runs too, so let's do it together :-)
