Hi everyone - just a quick question for a bit of fun:
Do you have a standout song on your running playlist that gets you in the mood no matter what? Or one that spurs you on and picks you up when you think it's all over?!
Hi everyone - just a quick question for a bit of fun:
Do you have a standout song on your running playlist that gets you in the mood no matter what? Or one that spurs you on and picks you up when you think it's all over?!
You read my mind, hannah. I was thinking during my run today to start a thread about this.
Mine is C'Mon by Tiesto and Diplo: youtube.com/watch?v=gujB7A5...
This is normally not the kind of music I ever listen to, but it's got great energy, plus literally the only lyrics are "come on!", so it's like you've got your own personal little cheerleading squad in Tiesto and Diplo. It has spurred me on countless times - today, in fact, W9R1 when it came on near the end and I ran till it was over and completed 32 minutes running!
Ha! Well I thought about it a while ago but it was reading your W9R1 post where you said you had the song at the end that you just had to keep going. I think we all have one like that, a tune that makes us feel invincible - even if only for 4.20!
What's yours?
I need to set up a proper playlist! I keep putting it off but it's going to be the best playlist known to man when I get round to it. So far at the top of the list is:
Parov Stelar - Up all night (feel good electroswing great for half way through)
Gidge - Dust (more chilled with a good underlying beat to zone out to)
And Chaka Khan - Feel for you (everyone needs a good singalong!)
Oh my gawd YES! Nina Simone "Feeling Good" post race always hits the spot. Shakira "whenever, whereever" (which I posted about yesterday, with clip over on the 10k forum) always makes me titter but gets my legs shifting
I have loads of faves but some make me bounce too much which slows you down but it does make the run more fun. Thinking of the likes of Footloose (Kenny Loggins) Pink's "Your Hand" is fantastic. It makes you laugh and it's good to run to. Watch the clip on youtube. I think most of my running faves are on the Sami Murphy BRidge to 10k podcasts, free to download hereabouts, for when you've graduated from C25k and C25k+
If you're still on C25k have you heard about Julie yet? Once heard, never forgotten
I haven't been introduced to Julie yet... I had a bit of an app mishap. They've removed the App with Laura from the app store. I think the NHS is trying to replace it with the one from their One You campaign to try and make everything the same across the board. It's got Jo Whiley saying exactly the same script as Laura did which was odd! Just did a quick search and found this:

I'll have a listen on my lunch break!
Anything by iron Maiden really. this one by Thunder is great to keep you going up that hill though.
Ooooh, I love this thread!
I really enjoy listening to Daft Punk's 'Harder better faster stronger' - it gives me lots of energy as well as allowing me to keep going when the going gets tough.
I love video games, and I have a few remixes of video game soundtracks on my phone, one of my favourites is this track at the moment - youtube.com/watch?v=DIo6o8C...
My personal favourite when I'm out running is Primus "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" - youtube.com/watch?v=skOxrBg...
It's nearly impossible for me to listen to Primus and not smile
'In the mood' Glenn Miller. The beat is perfect for me and always makes me smile. If I'm flagging at the end of a run this one will always get me home
This thread is going to cost me a fortune on itunes 😉
I absolutely LOVE this one, much to my teenagers' amusement: brings out the Rocky in the most prudish of running mothers. Don't forget your boxing gloves 'cos you'll be dying to punch the air as you run... Fort Minor.
I don't listen to music when out running as personally prefer to take in my surroundings, however I love 'Stay' by Sigma to listen to before I go out for motivation!
So far I haven't listened to music when running outdoors, but on the treadmill I used to like a defiant tune to drive me on. In particular Good Luck by Basement Jaxx and Yes by McAlmont and Butler (both break-up songs, but actually not a bad ex-boyfriend in sight!).
I don't think Kurt Cobain had jogging in mind when he wrote it but Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana is my current favourite. In fact In Utero as a whole is a great running album.
My playlist has everything from Sam Smith to Guns n Roses but a current fave is Nirvana Feels Like Teen Spirit especially when I've got a hill to climb.
I don't listen to music any more when I'm running but when I did and I was struggling it always gave me a boost when this came on:
Love a drop of Aretha! She's the business!
I do like to rock when I'm running, and I forgot, Born to be Wild! How could we forget that one. I like Status Quo "The Oriental" (non PC) but it drives the legs a treat. AC/DC "Whole Lotta Rosie" gets my vote too
Bit corny - but I go for the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling". Also Donna Summer "I Feel Love": youtube.com/watch?v=7weuslo...
