So, I stepped in a muddy puddle right up to my ankle (yes, just call me Doctor Foster although it wasn't Gloucester, it was Cambridge), how do I clean my shoes please?

Some people put them in the washing machine on a low temp and short wash- sometimes in a bag or pillowcase if you worry about them. Other people go more careful with a brush to get off the mud?

Ha ha! I did the same! Was so busy trying to avoid getting splashed by a passing car that I stepped straight into the biggest puddle. I'm just going to stuff it with newspaper then brush it when it's dry. I'd be wary of putting them in the washer - I've heard it can damage the padding.

Definitely - stuff them with newspaper 'til they are dry (draws the water out the shoe), make sure you dry them away from any strong heat (i.e. no leaving them on top of a radiator !) - and brush them off when the mud is dry. Works wonders for walking boots as well :-)

I think , although Im not 100% sure , if you let them dry out and then brush the mud off with a brush :-) xxx

I have had mud issues too from time to time. I usually let them dry off. I bang them against each other to loosen the dry mud under the shoe. I them brush them with a stiff brush on the material. Finally with a damp sponge I wash the side made of wipe able material and then the same with the material. Don't like to put them in the machine. Mind you, depends on how muddy they are. I always wipe them on the grass on the way home

That's a running medal! I was advised to never, ever, put them in the washing machine (and never have ) I just let them dry and bang them together to get the lumps of mud off. I am mighty proud of my mucky shoes, shows they've been used! 😄

It's more the mud inside I was concerned with, perhaps that will sponge off...xx

For mud on the inside take out the insole and hand wash/run under a cool tap. As has been said, Stuff the shoe with paper and leave in a warm place to dry. You may need to change the paper if they're very wet. Then, when all dry a good knock together and brushing where you can reach.

Oops! Mine are like that from sunday, ready to brush off now, just hope they're not too stinky! If so wash in sink and stuff with paper or put in airing cupboard 😊

Curly

i would take the insoles out and stuff the inside of the shoe with newspaper.

When the shoes are dry get a sponge and very gently clean the outside,, dont put them in the washing maching cos that will damage the mid sole

Send them round here. My hubby cleaned mine up beautifully after the muddy MoRun. Actually, he them in a bowl of warm water and scrubbed them clean inside and out with a stiff brush, then he rinsed then thoroughly, took the insoles out, turned them upside down and dried them slowly over a couple of days. They came up as good as new. Hope you're feeling better soon, m'dear xxx

Why not just wear that mud with pride. Think of it as a battle scar ;)

If I really must clean my shoes I: knock off the excess mud and then put them under a warm tap using a nail brush and washing up liquid to clean them up. To dry them I stuff them with old newspaper and put them under (not on) the radiator to dry. This is the technique I use for cleaning the trail shoes I use for cross country. A couple of weeks ago I weighed them before and after a particularly muddy event. They were 1.6kg lighter when I'd finished!

I would be very wary of putting them in the washing machine. Don't use too much heat to dry them either - gently does it.

Thanks all. Carrie and Adam, I was hoping for some advice from you two as I know you both had very muddy runs recently! My white ones are filthy and I don't care, I never much liked them anyway, but these are my pretty mint green ones, and I really don't want to be reminded of a horrible run when I shouldn't have gone out in the first place as I am ill - I am an idiot, a muddy idiot!

I was loath to immerse them totally in water until I realised they couldn't get any wetter! I gave them a good scrub, it actually cheered me up quite a bit - I was sad to see my beauties so dirty...unfortunately our recycle bin was emptied yesterday, so no newspaper in the house... I tied them on the washing line...

Hehe, great post. It's definitely been warm enough to dry stuff on the line. It's mad weather isn't it.

I don't like having dirty shoes either.. Or wet feet.. Bit of a wuss really!

Hope all is good with you otherwise 😀 xx
