That's a good idea, gets it all sorted. As long as you don't have to run with a tool box or a brief case! x :-D :-D

Well done. I have only done it the other way round as it's less uphill towards work and it's usually when I am busy after work :-) . Now that winter is here and I need a warmer coat (I already have a lightweight one living at the office) I have started running at lunch time once a week. It's great to build it into your day, isn't it. Maybe I will try running home one day too....

givman profile image
givman in reply todagshar

yes lunchtime would be ideal but no showers at my office unfortunately!!

Gra

Wish I could but the 15 kilometres is bit too far along country roads with no pavements in the dark. Great idea though

Yes im 7 miles so is within range for me!!

Gra

That's quite some distance. I wouldn't want to do that on the way to work though. I am just over 5k away, which is ideal. At lunch time I can fit up to 6k into the time. I may try running home tomorrow (and picking my coat up on Sat when I have to be in town again anyway) and do a 8k route.

I have run to work a couple of times but it involved a military operation to ensure clothes etc all at work. The other issue was that by 3 I was half asleep as I had to leave the house at 5.30 and its about 12 miles. My ultimate is to run to and from work as part of marathon training so that will be 24 miles... Well done for getting out there and its a great way to get the training in!!!

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toju-ju-

I know what you mean Ju, regarding the military operation .

I just cant seem to get my head around what clothes I need to take to work, what I need to leave at work , what about my bag ? What do I do about my coat ?If I leave it at work, what will I wear for the next morning as I walk to work . Arrrgh too much faffidge for my poor brain to deal with !!! :-) xxx

I had to do lists etc, and lots of planning!! And once I forgot my bra too!!!!!

hi juicy

yes can appreciate it isn.t convenient for everyone and im lucky cos

a) im a bloke and have no hair so have the advantage of not having to spend too much time in the loo!!

b) I only work 7 miles away so is doable

c) I can get away with taking the bare minimum kit to work

I am hiving similar issues, I have 3 miles to the train station at the moment I cycle but think that running it would be more beneficial.

The issues are if I run in the morning I will be sweaty on the train, though this might guarantee me getting a seat to myself. We have shower and changing facilities in work, just means I have a very full rucksack with my work clothes in.

Coming home I will need to have tracksuit bottoms or something on to keep warm while waiting for the train, I can then take these off when I start running. This then means I need to carry these too.

It would guarantee me getting 6 miles a day run in. Would this be better than cycling/freewheeling?

Aaaggh any advice from anyone already doing this?

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toQscout

I know Scout ,its a bit of a conundrum isn't it ? I don't have shower facilities at work , so I wouldn't be able to run to work. Running home would be perfect for me ( its exactly 5k from work to my house ) but I need to give my head a good wobble and get myself organised as to what to take and what to leave at work !

We will work it out with a bit of planning ! :-) xxx

givman in reply topoppypug

im the same cos we dont have any showers at work either so running away from the office seems the sensible option!!

Gra

Im going to give this some serious thought Gra. Im thinking of getting a lightweight rucksack and taking it from there .

Thank you for inspiring me ! :-) xxx

I'd love to do this, but I live 15 miles from work and have two dual carriageways (no footpaths) to negotiate. We will be moving the office soon and parking at the new place is a nightmare. I've thought of buying a backpack and parking up out of town and running in and out. It's a bit of a logistical nightmare, but would be really could if it could be arranged. Well done you. It must save so much time.

yes im lucky cos i only work 7 miles away so it is doable for me..I only do it once a week though!!!

I have it all sussed and can do it apart from one thing. I either run both to work and home from work, or I need to find somewhere to put my warm coat (that I where on the leg I am not running), when I am doing the running stint.

poppypug profile image

Oooh Ive just realised n' all , 7 miles is 11k ! :-O

Well done Gra, massive pat on the back for you :-) xxx

Ran home from the train yesterday!

I took my running gear with me to work, and changed for coming home. I wore jogging bottoms on the train that I was able to take off and put into my rucksack for the run. Flashing light attached to the rucksack, a headtorch and hi-vis rain jacket to keep me safe on the road and 3 miles in 30 minutes.

Fortunately this morning wasn't too cold and I cold get into work without needing the coat that I left behind in work yesterday. The plan is to repeat this now twice a week and to have a third run that I will use to increase the distance over time on one of my days off.

brilliant!!

I ran home tonite and will do the same every Tuesday...get the bus in and jog home...simple effective and once you are in and showered the evening is yours to enjoy!!
