Girl Power and equality in action...
I can't imagine how that would feel, thankfully. I love doing my events, in future I will mentally dedicate a km every event to Katherine just to say thank you.
Gosh! Good for her and good for the other runners!!!!
Is the guy in the trousers and jacket jock semple? He looks like he's gonna cry! Wonder why it bothered him so much...
Crazy that this is such recent history! Wow.
I suppose it's just a demonstration of how strong is the impulse to preserve customs for their own sake. If you tried to make one small, sensible change to our world of today, and you'd be surprised how intense the reactions would be against you for daring this. The world hasn't changed in *that* way. And yet let just a little bit of time pass, and people looking back find it almost impossible to understand the feelings they see. Because this was just one small, sensible change to the world, after all. The feelings shown are objectively ... well, weird, aren't they? But that's really just because it's someone else's precious custom that's being challenged, someone else's authority being mocked (maybe it was all about that, even?) *We're* still just like guy that in ways imperceptible to ourselves. What I'm getting at is that is a picture of "us". Just change the circumstances a bit, that's all. Offer an innovation, and don't be surprised if everyone wants to kill you, rather than just say "No".
And having said that ... how strange ...
The man in the hat in the background could be Princess Ann in disguise!!!!
They were afraid she might win. What else could it be?
