I was out on a run on Tuesday evening when I saw 3 runners on the opposite side of the road running in the opposite direction to Me. I clapped and said good effort to them all; they looked shocked by this and ignored me. Are we not there to support and encourage other runners we meet on our out and abouts.

Supporting runners
I always smile & say hello or wave to fellow runners. I've had a couple of runners & cyclists who have shouted encouraging words to me. So far I haven't proffered any encouraging words to others purely because they are all much fitter & doing much better than me!!
I see absolutely no reason not be be encouraging & supporting others. I know it always gives me a boost when I'm flagging a bit!
Strange isn't it? Not sure why but some people in sport become so serious they forget where they started. Maybe secretly they were pleased but didn't show it, don't change, keep celebrating 😀 Julie
perhaps this is the beginning of a groundswell of change! I know I need all the encouragement I get!
Encouragement is so important. If we were all more encouraging towards each other about everything in life, the world would be a much better place - instead of that, social media seems to turn everyone into bitter critics.
Except on here of course!
Perhaps they were 'in the zone' and you took them by surprise. Keeping on giving cheery waves - I'm sure they are appreciated by most!
We can only do what we can do. We cannot control reaction from others.
Perhaps they were in a "bubble" and didn't want to be disturbed.
This might sound as a cliche but it's not you, it's them
The number of times I've spotted runners on the other side of the road or even running towards me and have tried to catch their eye to share a smile...and get totally blanked!! I even ran past a group who had stopped for a break and offered a wave and was looked at like I'd flipped them the finger.
Needless to say, I rarely bother now.
I love it when others encourage me when I'm out running, but its normally the lovely old dears sitting on benches saying "nearly there!" or "keep going your doing well", one bloke actually commented on my red face though, maybe not so good
I always raise my hand in a wave / high five style if we are running on opposite sides of the road and smile / say morning if on the same side of the road. I usually get a good response I.e. wave or hello, if I don't get a response from them I know I have made the effort so all is well with the world.
I also try and blurt out a polite morning / afternoon / evening and 70% of the time get some form of recognition back. It is so quiet around me I even acknowledge the cyclists too ...............
I love it when I get encouragement from others and it adds a little spring to the step! I can't understand anyone that wouldn't so you keep at it for those of us that appreciate it.
