So my friends from Cornwall came to stay for the weekend and Helen says "you and Nigel can go for a run together, he'll enjoy doing a new route"...sounds innocent enough doesn't it but he's a proper 10k, half marathon type runner and I've only just graduated...eeeek.

Anyway we set off on Sunday morning and I have to admit to feeling quite nervous , I didn't want to slow him down too much, also Nigel never runs with headphones so I didn't either as it seemed a bit rude, this meant that all I could hear was my heavy breathing, made worse by my nerves and feeling self conscious. Eventually this settled down and I got my panting under control and found some sort of rhythm, then...Nigel asked me a question.. "Oh no don't talk to me, I can't cope" I thought but managed to gasp and answer.

I felt like I pushed myself a bit harder than previously and was keen to see if my time had improved but my bleeping "not so smart" phone let me down again and when we stopped running I couldn't get it to stop so it included our cool down walk as well...grrrr.

However Nigel was very encouraging and said we were doing a mile in under 10 minutes which he seemed quite impressed with, he encouraged me to join a running club and to carry on and aim for a 10k eventually...oooh errrrr, so all in all a positive experience I just wanted to share with you all.

Happy Bunny

Wow.

Braver than me to take on an actual running type. It's funny isn't it how none of us want to embarrass ourselves or inconvenience others yet the other person turns out to be really encouraging and gracious.

You must be very proud, well done.

You never know, we may be 'that proper runner' to someone else in the future!

Well done. I've never run with anyone! Temped to join a running club though for the winter when it's dark so early.

Thanks Rlear, yes that's what I'm thinking as I work full time and live out in the country I wouldn't be able to do my routes in the dark, way too dodgy but I know the running clubs train in the evening, it's just plucking up the courage isn't it.

Well that certainly turned out better than you thought, just shows you what you are capable of. Nice work!
