I asked for a session with the personal trainer at my local gym. I was keen to start lunges and squats as suggested by Rignold. I went today with some trepidation 'cos I had an inkling it would hurt, and in any case I hate the gym!
Chrissie the PT was very good. Without me suggesting it she showed me how to do squats and (walking) lunges, then went onto deadlift, snatch and press(?) and press-ups. By the end I was sweating buckets, and every muscled hurt. We then did stretches which I wasn't expecting, but am pleased she showed me.
I feel fine now, after my shower, but tomorrow I'm gonna be hurting. I volunteered at parkrun 'cos I didn't think I'd be up to running

Well done you! Its good to do some other bits alongside the running. I was nervous before my first training session at the gym but needn't have worried. It was great fun and I'm sure it has all helped. It's nice to do different things. I did find that I could barely sit down the next day, my quads hurt so much! Enjoy parkrun, you deserve a break! x
Sounds like you had an all over body work out. These sessions seem to reach muscles that haven't been touched for years. After a recent session on holiday I couldn't even cross my legs as my inner thighs were killing me!! You'd think that running would have prepared you for these things but oh no they don't!! Good luck on sitting down tomorrow too. The toilet may be problematic.
In my 20s I used to go to the gym with a friend and do a really punishing circuit. Then we'd ache for the best part of a week before going and doing it all over again. I can still remember the pain of climbing a couple of flights of stairs at work 2days later Suspect the problem was not stretching properly at the end of each session. It was worth it though for the fab bod it gave us both, and the fact that I could beat my then boyfriend at arm wrestling!
I'm about to have my first ever session with a Personal Trainer this morning. I was looking forward to it until I read about the agony for days afterwards. Oh er!
