Feeling a bit put out..

Having graduated Sunday (yay!) I am due to run this evening for my first post graduation run, and my first run with my own garmin! Much excitement im sure you can imagine! However, yesterday evening i cleverly decided to attend legs, bums and tums at my local gym, and all the squats and lunges mean my legs hurt tooo much to run! (Booooo). How do i overcome this/speed up the recovery of these muscles so that i can tolerate a run?

Thanks in advance!!xxx

A bit like running, your body will adapt.

I was given strengthening exercises to do by a physio last Monday - including lots of squats and lunges! On Tuesday, my thighs felt like they were made of lead and were really achy. Fast forward just one week and the same regime feels much easier and barely aches at all.

Thanks for your reply- were you able to manage running when your legs felt like that? I dont mind toooo much not going out tonight but wouldnt want to leave it any longer so will need to go out tomorrow night really.

I wasn't schedule to run the following day as I was recovering from injury but for sure it would not have been easy.

I would take the night off if I were you and make sure your first run with your Garmin is a good one.

Haha! L,B&T - or 'Abs n' Arses' as I used to call it at my gym.

Was it your first session doing the squats and lunges? If so, the whole John Wayne crab walk thing the next day is entirely normal. Just keep doing it and you will get much stronger much quicker. I could barely walk the first time I did 20 of each, and now do literally hundreds of each 3 times a week.
