I did it. My first official Fun Run. Very very special. And I got a medal for it! My first medal.
The run was actually: bitumen, grass (oval), asphalt, red sandy dirt, red packed dirt, concrete path, soft beach sand and grass at the end. So a mix really.
I forgot to switch off my GPS but I worked out it took me 40 minutes for the 5k. I will know the exact time when their power outage is sorted and they can work their computers. I was probably the last one on the 5K but was not the last one at the finish line as the 10K were also arriving.
Now I know I can run a bit later in the day although I much prefer day break.
I took Laura with me, using week 9R3 and other. It helped. I also used my trail shoes instead of the asics. The cheap trail shoes were more comfortable. Also someone told me to not change anything. To just keep what I am used to. It worked.
So here I am, feeling so proud and cool!!!

Lovely picture and race report, you look cool and collected, not like you've just ran a race! That varying terrain would be tough. Will there be more races in the future for you?
Yes I was well rested. I had done a few minutes brisk walk around the grass to cool off, then we had to wait for the last 10k runner, a lovely elderly gentleman who took 1hr 10 minutes for 10K. Fantastic him! Then we had a ceremony/talk, then our medals. All this took a while so I was well rested. Then we went for a calories rich, disgusting, yummy breakfast. I would do it again tomorrow just for the breakfast!
Congratulations! The way you approached the event was spot on. It is ever so true that much of this running thing is in the head. Think about the terrain and the conditions ahead of the race and wear the right shoes. Take that podcast that spurs you on. There are many little things that can give you a personal edge. if you believe they work, they will work.
Great bling. There's going to be a big collection there soon, I bet!
Very nice - have never been to Broome ( yet!! ) I dare say that it was a bit warmer than it has been in "sub-tropical" Brisbane over the last few days!!!
I could be negative Usain and say : midges, wind, red dust, crocs, snakes but we have to keep our priorities right so it is just like you said. We love it, it just cannot be better than that!
So pleased you had a good experience, it looks like beautiful location and now you know you can....there'll be no stopping you adding to your medal haul. Well done !
Oh congratulations, that's brilliant and what a lovely photo too. You're looking remarkably chilled and fresh for someone who's just finished a race. You should frame it and put it on display
