I am thinking of signing up for the great south run in October this year, but as yet my longest run is 10k (as opposed to 10 miles!!)
and I all honesty... I still find this a struggle!! Would it be reasonable to sign up and pay the £40 fee now, and hope to be able to run this distance by October?
Thanks

Be interested to see your replies. I have been thinking the same. Am signed up for a 10 k in July and am wondering if I should then make that my next goal or will it all be too much and it's a lot of money to waste.
You've got 4mths, at the rate you are progressing i'm confident you would do it! i've signed up too and my brother, i've just about done 15k twice but not as a regular thing yet, though i am aiming to sort a proper training plan out asap! I'm aiming for steady pace and not going too mad for a fast time, as 10 miles IS a long way!! as long as you've got some schedule in mind i can't see there would be too much trouble (not that i know much technically really!) its supposed to be great, my bruv did it 3 times around 10yrs ago....
PS my colleague at work did it last year, without doing the full distance before and she got round fine. (though i guess thats not to be encouraged!)
There is a bunch of us doing HMs in October who are at a similar stage in terms of experience as yourself. I have just completed week 1 of a 16-week training program for an HM on 4th October having only ran 10k once so far.
Thanks for your encouragement guys!! I have created a myasics plan which kicks off tomorrow, and i was pleasently surprised by how manageable (obvs still challenging!!!) It looks
