During August I did something - I signed up for a 5k fun run. As I didn’t want the pressure of timing myself or rather being embarrassed of coming last place.
So this morning with trepidation, fear and quivering knees I set out with OH in enough time to get parked and get familiar with the temperature and atmosphere. I needn’t have worried as the mc was very friendly and all the volunteers were supportive.
Those familiar with fun run- please skip this line. However, I am not going to bore you - I had a fantastic warm up which was fun and proceeded to the start line with a lot of young people. I decided not to get caught up - in their fast pace. Count down started after our “pyramid of determination”.
Now for the fun bit! I want to cut to the exciting part- I had my second run app started my run for 30minutes. I did it and the rest I ran continually until the 5K marked the finish line. Along the way I saw a wolf, little red riding hood, a fairy, a super sliver K, through the 5K. It was lovely run definitely enjoyed it and also thought how far I have come and yet to achieve.
My OH was at the finish line to cheer me on which was emotional for me. I was beeming like a Cheshire Cat 😉. And I still have 1 more run to do to complete the C25K programme. So now back at home typing this reflection- I’m less fearful now of my parkrun and would be setting this at my next goal though sooner than plan. As in my reflective diary my target was spring 2019. Who would have thought - a snail like me can run a 5k. 🙂🙂🙂🙂 I think I would have a nice desert today- I certainly earned it.
Oh the photo at the end wasn’t brilliant but you can see my first ever bling. I’m a runner after all.

Thanks. Will let you know when I’m finished my C25K. Grad run to do then onwards to the parkrun (they are really quick- one person broke the local record this Saturday just shy of 16mins. I would be at least 50minutes plus - so very slow.
UnfitNoMore, it would be fun to have a virtual park run buddy. Let’s know when I was planning on next month.
Hehe... I forgot you hadn’t graduated yet... good job I’m not coaching 😂
Forget the fastest guy, at my park run you only see them for a few seconds! My only official parkrun time is 53 minutes and something... they were so supportive. I emailed to see if they were ok me walking it and I got a lovely reply from the race director saying of course. He was on holiday, but they were expecting me... I got a great welcome. Then signed up for marshalling and C25K. When the race director came back he started the run and then walked around to my post to see how I was going on. I really feel a part of that run, it’s not my nearest but will forever be my home parkrun.
So, yeah, I’m 4 weeks off finishing this... and hopefully I’ll have a parkrun in me then. I’m happy to buddy up... heck if you’re anywhere around Manchester I’d come run it with you.
Me too technically, but the rest of the midlands is miles away... I’m in the extreme far north of Derbyshire. Derby is 90 minutes by car, so is Manchester but that’s only 13 miles away... bloody traffic!
Thanks cheekychipmunks, I was very emotional at the finish line but managed not to cry, just a cheesy grin/smile.
Said to OH, I can’t believe in little over two months I can do 5k. Thought of all the recent grads including you, UnfitNoMore, Fabulous450, Hot-heels, Languid (sorry forgot the rest of ur username) and others who made it real for me.
