So... even do it was chilly outside and I didn't want to, I went and did the first run of week 2.
Whilst running, all I could think of was that if it was so hard to run for 90 seconds, I wiy never be able to run for 20 solid
Sad

You so will! I'm just on Week 8 and if you'd told me I'd make it this far I'd have laughed in your face! Trust Laura, go slow, take it one run at a time (I never listen ahead) and you will be amazed, promise! π
Awww you promise? Ok this helps thanks
PS also you've already got this far - bet you didn't think you could this either a week ago! You can do it!!
Hey hold on there...! Well done for getting to week 2, that's awesome and all in good time. Keep following Laura. When I started I could not in a million years believe I would stick at this, run more than 60 seconds, let alone graduate. But each challenge was accomplished, and everyone on here helped make the difference. Keep running. You can do this!!
You graduates make it sound easy I want to graduate too but those 90 secs lasted forever. Ok. I stick with it. Hard!
Thanks!
Hey hey, chin up well done! Don't look too far ahead, slow and steady, one step at a time...we all have to conquer the voice in our heads saying stop, it may be hard but don't give in, it's such a buzz when you get there. Keep smiling you can do it!
Thanks! Aww so much support here. Big voice in my head But I am sticking to it. Just really scared of the future weeks! Thanks.
Smile yes always
Ah well...it IS hard trying to build up from nothing but please, persevere, its these really hard first runs that are building the foundations for the weeks ahead and if you can knuckle down and do the hard part now the rest WILL get easier as you get fitter. It just works...honest...and if you went out and did a session when it was cold and you didn't want to do it you have got the right attitude. Keep at it !!
You think so? I didn't want to, but boyfriend said come on! Let's go! Go! And I was out the door. Hard and not enjoying it much but I want to graduate like all the other kids here
Thanks I will try to stay positive
Don't be sad, take one run at a time. When I started I was huffing and puffing inside 30 seconds in a minute run, I never thought I would be able to run longer than that. Slowly slowly is the motto. You really can do it, if I can get to week 7 then literally anyone can. Just keep to the plan, don't dwell on the previous runs just on the upcoming ones. Good luck, keep us posted.
Thanks this helps! You were struggling too? I looked like I was dying he he. Drivers were giving me the pity looks
Ok. One day at a time
Let's look at the positives then......
You posted here, on the most supportive and friendly new runners forum in interwebdom.......which means that you already have a support team who can advise you run by run.
You completed the run.......that is all that is asked of you at any stage of the programme.
You have two more runs of Week 2 in which you will probably find that 90 seconds running becomes much easier and by the end you WILL be ready to tackle Week 3.
You went out when you didn't want to, which shows determination. It is a challenge and you need to enjoy your successes, not worry about what is expected of you in weeks to come. If you find it tough, then simply slow down.
Don't fear a run. Congratulate yourself by looking backwards at your progress.
You are doing great. Keep posting and good luck.
Awww thanks so much. I can't believe I got so many replies! So much support.
I will try to just take it one session at a time. So hard as I thought I was to start with the 5 minutes warm.down and Laura said I had one more run but I did it
I won't disappoint you lot!
Agree with all above and can also promise you that you will do it, not looking ahead in the program is great advice my sister did it before me and told me the same, we as humans find it so very easy to set ourselves up for a fall so dont, just tackle each run as one little step and before you know it you will be on here posting about your final graduation run, YOU CAN DO IT!!
Thanks! I did look ahead and panicked! So maybe now I have to just do a day at a time and focus on that. The London marathon was on TV and I had so many feelings!
Thanks
We all did it and felt just like you did....so you will too. Listen and trust Laura
Laura is my friend thanks. Seems hard though!
Just take it easy, go slowly and by the time you have finished week 2, you will be looking forward to the challenge of week 3.
Ok I hope this happens to me! I was excited after week 1 but just 90 seconds so slowly...
Breath in...
Thanks!
You can do it , yes you , you really can !
The programme is designed to build up your stamina run by run, week by week.
Please dont fear it, embrace it . You are going to feel soo amazing , I promise you.
Good Luck, keep posting on here , you will get all the support you need .
Youre doing great, keep going ! xxx
Ahhhh you all are so nice! I will try I promise but not enjoying it at the moment. ..
But well done me for sticking to it
Thanks
I wanted to cry after the the week 1 runs they were so hard. You will do it! Stick with it! I completed 20minutes tonight!
Wow! Well done! 20 minutes! I want to cry every time! So maybe one day I will do 20 minutes too
Thanks!!!
i could only manage 20 seconds when I started !! Ran 30 minutes on Monday. Go slow, repeat runs if needed, you WILL improve over time !
Ahhh ok so this is normal then. Just so hard physically and mentally!
One day at a time, one day a time... Thanks!
You're description is completely normal and pretty much common to everyone! I had never run before I started the programme, wa completely unfit and spent that first run counting up to 30 desperately wishing for it to be over...... Less than two years later and I'm running a half marathon next week!
Stay with it, there's so much to gain!
I am glad i read your post. I will start week 2 on saturday. I have done wek 1 twice as my friend decided to follow this programme after i had already started so i repeated week 1 to be with her. It has proved to be a good move. I can feel my improvement and also feel ready to start the next session. That said i am worried i wont be able to do the times and may beat myself up over it as currently can do wk 1 runs relativley well. Having never run in my life and never believed i was capable i am pleased with my steady progress but worried about what comes over the nxt few weeks
Don't worry! In particular, don't worry about the times. Just stick with it. It's easy to think that the graduates around here were all super fit types before they started but the truth is most of us were just like you. This biggest tip I can offer is to work on your mind as well as your physical side. If you tell yourself you can't do it, then you won't. If you tell yourself you can, then you just might. Go on, give it a go!
Aw hun I ran w2r1 today too! It was definitely harder than I expected, but we can do this I know the future looks daunting, but I'm trying to just focus on the present. If we're looking at the massive mountain ahead, running will be scary and not fun. So try make it fun for yourself! Just enjoy the moment Laugh at yourself, take in the lovely fresh air and sunshine! And before you know it we'll be graduating! (Also my backup plan is that if one of the weeks get too hard, I'll just repeat the previous week... haha so no stress!)
Good luck! We can do this!
I'm on week 3 at the minute and don't worry it does get better! I find listening to music helps the portions of running go by quicker, I don't use the app anymore and just time the amounts of time on my phone
I remember not thinking I would ever be able to do 90 seconds, or 3 minutes and now it's getting easier At the minute I'm thinking I'll never do 5 minutes straight like next week but hopefully I'll be eating my words in a few days Keep running! x
Been there could not run for 1 min i have run a half marathon follow Laura you will do it .
You will surprise yourself slow and steady is the way. Concentrate on one week at a time. I have never run in my life and thought i may need rescuing on my first week. Only trouble was i told no one i was doing it and were i was in case they keeled over with laughter.. But as i start week 5 on Monday i have treated myself to some proper running tops as am starting to really think i will do this. And that is the hardest thing believeing you can. So keep going soon ypu will enjoy it and feel fab as you manage each step
