So I did Wk7 run 1 with Laura and her terrible music, then I played around with my husband's ipod nano (not a euphemism) and found that on Nike+ you can set a time for your run and use your own playlist - even better it gives you time markers! on the 25 minute run today it informed me when I'd run 5 minutes, 10 minutes and when I was half way, then told me when I had 10 minutes left and a countdown for 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 minutes plus a 'Well done!" at the end.
I felt much better running to music I like, and I made the playlist myself so I chose the tempo to match my running, I ran half a km further than on run 1 whilst thinking I was taking it easier!
I can't abandon Laura completely, but I notice it can also be set for distance so it's looking good for keeping me on track when I run out of C25k podcasts.
