Week 9 run 1. Calf muscles won :(

Why oh why did my calf muscles decide that today was the day to be so so painful! I managed only half of the run before I had to stop - tried to run through the pain but couldn't. I did a warm up of stretches but it just wasn't meant to be. Will rst and try again in a few days. I will not be beaten!

Oh no! Calves jinxed me on the exact same run 2 weeks ago :( no way you can run through it and it's a bad idea anyway. I had to rest, ice, gel, ice for a few days and even got myself a foam roller to massage the calf, it worked. Just done run 2 of week 9 this morning. Stay positive but respect the calf :)

I have a theory that it could be anxiety. It seems to be a recurring problem that hits at this crucial time

If you do your warm up thoroughly before leaving the house so you are hot before leaving the house to start your five minute or so walk, then that should help. Also go slowly!

Be sure to have a smile on your face a mile wide before embarking on your next attempt 😊

I agree with MW. I'd suspect it's to do with pace/gait. When I ran earlier, my calves felt tight - I was trying to run slowly, and it was an unfamiliar action. After a while, I relaxed into the pace and it went away.

Try to relax, make your strides natural and easy, don't try to force a pace either too slow or too fast.

Good luck! You'll be fine!

That's a bummer! Great spirit though, rest up and you will nail it next time.
