I woke up this morning and didn't feel I could face running after having 6 hours sleep. So I took my running stuff to work and ran along the canal at lunchtime. It was good to get a change of scenery, was much flatter and more sheltered. But I still found it hard even though I didn't contemplate stopping. I still can't imagine running easily even though I am on week 6. I want to continue running and am so looking forward to the day I can run comfortably at a good pace with regular breathing.

Great idea to run at lunchtime if you can. Are you going slowly enough ? You ought to be going slow enough to hold a conversation at the same time as running. Pace can come later. Good luck with the rest of the week.

It will come Liz, but I have a feeling that now you have the bug, you will want to keep pushing to see how far you can go.

I'm still looking for the good pace and regular breathing too. I battle against my wish to be a 'proper' runner, i.e. to run at a faster rate than I naturally do, and also against a need to slow down to ease my breathing. I've settled somewhere between the two, starting my runs very slow, and only speeding up when my body feels ready (about 10mins in). Perhaps try that and see if it helps? If not, there is a lot of information online about other strategies for improving running technique, such as in the c25k+ podcasts I think, which I look forward to starting next week. Keep going and lots of luck!

It will all come with practice. Keep it slow and steady for now and you will get stronger and faster in the end. You're doing really well!
