Didn't find this too bad, but legs ache a bit today.
Question: what do people eat/drink before a run, particularly if you're a morning runner?
My routine is a 7 or 8 am run and I have a slice of toast with peanut butter, an orange and a cup of black tea, no sugar. Roughly 350 calories. I have this 15-30 minutes before I run.
I seem to be lacking in energy towards end of my run but have always managed to complete it.
I'm trying to eat a balanced diet to lose a few pounds and don't want overdo food.

Congratulations for reaching this far John. I will be in W6R1 tomorrow and can't wait for it.
I am no expert but so far for the gym or for run , I eat atleast 1 hour before but I hear ideally it's 1-2 hour's before.
I am a vegetarian and hence have a piece of wholegrain or sourdough rye toast with avocado and mushroom with some Greek yogurt ,nuts , and Chia seeds. After the run or workout, I have enough water and some nuts. It keeps me full. Good luck with the next run.
I wouldn't eat anything before a morning run. Just a glass of water or a cup of tea. You are probably running a bit soon after your breakfast and this maybe making you feel a bit sluggish as your body is using energy for digestion as well as running. I would wait until you get home and then have a nice, leisurely breakfast. I usually go for full fat yoghurt with a little fruit and nuts/seeds or just a coffee with double cream.
I’m a morning runner and eat nothing. I just a have a small cup of coffee. Also you need to leave at least an hour before running after your breakfast. You may be finding it tiring at the end as you’re going too fast?
Contrary to others’ comments, I find eating a banana just before a run really helpful. I have a 20 minute drive to my preferred area (beautiful open inner city parkland with loads of other runners and dog walkers - I bring my dog too.) I eat it in the car.
I’ve tried not eating, just having a cuppa and some water, and I simply don’t have as much energy. I do tend to run early, so the alternative would be a totally empty stomach.
Good luck with the rest of W6. I’ll be there next week! 😀
W7 is serious stuff! Please report back as I find it helpful hearing what’s in store - first I have to complete W5 and the ‘20-minuter’ on Friday! 😳🏃♀️
I do about 15 minutes of stretching before I go out and make sure I drink water whilst doing that, but I save my breakfast until I get home. I once had my usual breakfast before heading out but it made me feel a bit sick. I suppose we all work in different ways.
I think this shows we are all different. Whilst doing the first half of C25k I had a banana before a run. But then and now I prefer nothing. But atm I have been going out at 5am! 😬😬
