Really enjoyed week 3, so much so that I ran an extra two minutes at the end before cool down walk. Couple of 2k swims this week as well. Looking forward to week 4, have entered 5k run in June to give me motivation. Now looking for a pair of better running trainers but on a limited budget. Any ideas?
Week 3 complete.: Really enjoyed week 3, so... - Couch to 5K
Week 3 complete.
Hi Swimcat, Congratulations on your progress to date. Given your fitness levels the 5 k should be well within your reach.
There has been lots of discussion on here about running shoes and research that seems to disagree about the virtues of expensive running shoes. Many C25k'ers seem very happy with cheaper shoes while others splash out on expensive multicolour beauties (myself included!)
For me, I don't want to take the risk of injury at my advanced age. Even though my Yorkshire background (and wife) resent the cost, I have bought expensive. Many others swear by cheaper Sports Direct models.
Whatever you choose, I really advise you try several pairs to find some that are comfortable and have room in the toe box, i.e. don't pinch your toes. The C25K injury couch is pretty full and you don't want to go there (even if the people are lovely).
Good luck and keep us informed of your continued progress.
Well done and you enjoyed it which is even better! Having the 5K is a great goal to aim for and you have time to build up to it.
OG below has given you good advice re. shoes. A good running shop or Sweatshop will give you gait analysis ( theyll check your gait on a treadmill) and let you try on loads of shoes so you get a pair that works for you. Sweatshop has a 30 day period when you can return them if they're not right. This can be an expensive option but you can get them cheaper if you buy last seasons for example or check out their sales.
Nike also has sales at the minute so check them out too but the important thing is you get to try the shoes on and get proper advice from someone who knows what they're talking about.
It is an investment but once you get the running bug (and I'm sure you will!) the cost per run is minimal and so worth it.
