Does anyone have cinema knee (painful after long periods with knee bent) and if so do you run on it? I think it lots of stairs rather than running that seems to trigger this condition but wondered if any of you have any experiences to share? No problems or pain on my 5k run this morning, but lets see how knee if tomorrow.

Cinema Knee
I think I know what you mean by "cinema knee" - it is even more relevant in long distance air flights. I have had this - but now I am a "runner" and I have had no problem with my knees while running. I would not be surprised though if I did still have " long airflight knee"
If it persists, a podiatrist referral could be worthwhile.
I sometimes get that in my left knee, but find that using the knee, even for a 5 minute walk, tends to work the tenderness out of it again. So mine is normally cured during my warm up. As always with niggles, it's important to listen to your body - if it becomes a pain rather than a discomfort you might want to check with somebody educated to assess ligament and joint damages.
I think you can usually tell on a run if something is not right as the pain is sudden and acute, rather than just a dull ache
Running causes strain on the body, and if you've not run before, or are unfit then your body has to get stronger to support the new forces being exerted upon it. So, you just have to take your time and build up slowly, take the rest days, and the niggles should become a thing of the past. Many folks find this and start cross training on non-running days to help with strength. Cycling, walking and swimming seem to be the faves. I do exercise vids at home, which I really like.
Good luck on tomorrow's run!
Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. My knee still feels fine this evening after my run this morning. Let's see how it is after an hour curled up on the sofa!
Not sure, but I definitely get cinema hip...hope knee continues to be ok
I know exactly what you mean and am expecting to get it tonight (going to see Paddington!). The knees simply seize up after being in the same position for a long time. There's nothing organically wrong with them, it's just stiffness. A quick stagger up the aisle and a shake-about a bit and they're usually OK again, and certainly OK to run on the next day.
Yes! I thought I was the only person this happened to! Strangely enough I don't ever get it on flights... My worst episode though was when I went to see The Nutcracker, immediately followed by The Hobbit. As others have said though, its quickly walked off, and it hasn't yet affected my running.
I don't sit for long periods of time thank goodness. I can't sit on the sofa for an hour. I get up and down like I'm on a spring. Drives my old man crackers but I feel it works and I don't get locked up. I started being like this after getting a bad back and my chiro told me to keep shifting position. Every 10 minutes get up and walk round, so that's what I do. Not during the night though. I need some rest. LOL
