no wonder my mojo is hiding in the freezer!
Just when I thought it can't get any harder, i... - Couch to 5K
Just when I thought it can't get any harder, it got even hotter!
Ha! I'm totally with YOU there KittyKat - Happy New Year to you too
Vixchile! Happy New Running Year to you! You canNot be complaining about a lovely "feels like 27" --- it's not even HUMID!
Happy new year! No it is never humid in santiago!! It's very dry I have never used so much lotion in all my life!! It's does have its good points as you can do stuff without too much effort. Humidity takes all your energy so can't really complain. The it feels like 27 degrees forget that! It should say it feels like an oven!
We are back in the UK in 16 weeks and we will be wrapped up for the artic. Maybe we will need to fly to Antarctic to acclimatise! ! I have serious visions of the scene in cool runnings where they refuse to leave the airport and wear their entire suitcase contents and suitcase for good measure!
I found myself staring at photo of ice thinking I want to roll around naked in that!
How long is it since you were in UK? It's 17 years for me but i'm sure May Bank Holiday was always a shorts and T shirts day! Never mind yearning for ice, you get that stamina built up in the heat cos it sounds like you're going to be flying around Silverstone with me ... WFL ... ???
That's a great movie tho ...
Filling the ice tray as we speak! My geography teacher used to tell us that it was the changeability of the British weather that formed our characters and built the Empire etc. !!! I'm not too sure about that but it certainly makes life unpredictable - I don't mind cold so much but heat makes things harder - at present my concern here though is the 55mph winds on the sea-front - I am trying to work out a 5K route where the wind is always behind me :))
Mmmmm we probably all have an ideal temperature tolerance range of about 5 degrees up or down from 20 or so .... it's WEATHER that English folk miss maybe? A variance? Perhaps Vixchile is deflated cos she can see she's got 3 months of this with little relief - still, i'd choose that over a frozen drenching like i got today!
Sorry Vix, you don't see me for weeks and then i'm being a nuisance, didn't mean to hijack your thread, byeeeeee
Happy new year kitty Kat - I will swap at few degrees for some ice just to have for 1 day. running is too much at the moment
Noooooooo don't climb in the oven! Wear more socks and a woollier jumper!
I am going to curl up in the freezer!
I'm with you Vixchile, I think it's too hot to run at 18C so that looks horrendous. We have got lots of wind, rain , ice, snow etc depending on where you go so you can take your pick in 16 weeks. I'm sure it won't have changed that much by then !!
Yeah I am looking forward to coming home in a few weeks! For the great british breakfast! I long for baked beans and bacon! plus curry! packing will be easy the jumpers! At least you have the joys of central heating, building here have no central heating and no insulation so in winter they do tend to get cold.
Clearly not Santiago, Northumberland then....
Yeah, I remember last summer very well..... that's when I started running at 5 in the morning for just the same reason.
Monday I cried off at minus 17... but made up for it on Tuesday with a 6k run in fresh snow when the temperature got back to more civilised level!
Happy new year and happy running.
5am is so early, I really struggle. Last night we had dinner at 10:30pm because it was so warm! i need to try though! As I am struggling to get out twice a week at the moment and haven't gone further than 5k.
Can I ask when you run in the snow and those temperatures don't your feet freeze?
The coldest weather I have run in so far is minus 14.... and that was unintentional, It was only -11 when I left the house, so imagine my surprise when I got back half hour or so later to find out the temperature had dropped 3 degrees!
My feet did not freeze, in fact they were quite toasty when I got home (as was the rest of me!).
I run in trail running shoes so I suppose the extra thickness in the sole act as insulation. The only problem would be if the shoes got wet, then it might freeze, but when it is that cold the snow is very dry and you just brush it off without getting wet.
Also when the temperature drops below minus 8, I limit myself to half hour out (approx 3.5k).
I have found out my optimum running temperature is around -2 with a sprinkling of fresh snow for extra cushioning.
When you go bac to UK this Spring is it just a visit or is it long term?
"Bon courage" to get up early and run more comfortably!
No, cross or angry winds are not on at all - a good circular wind is what is needed - like a tornado I guess - but then they can pick you up and put you down somewhere else which would confuse the gps watch no end. I suppose that I could run all in one direction but then I would have a long walk back - running into the wind is not just hard work but it hurts my ears (arrh!) I also read that running into a wind and then with a tail wind don't balance out - so wind is rubbish unless you are a sailor. Think I'll emigrate to Sandiago - except my geography teacher never told me where it was - far too busy talking about weather and character etc! :))
Happy new year Runon!! I am loving this idea of a wind carrying you along on a run that's what I need. I wouldn't even attempt to run when the wind is 55mph!! no point running is one direction either, just move here! The bread and wine is excellent, rubber over priced cheese though. plus you don't have to worry about the weather it's hot and sunny everyday in summer, it's cloudy with some sun 10/15degrees in winter. Rain if your lucky!!! Most importantly no wind as you have the mountains!
Happy New Year Vixchile - sounds perfect - bread and wine are good - I have looked up Sandiago on the map - it is in America in case you don't know where you are - my childrens' Godparents live there so all is well and I do seriously need to get to LA in the near future - so I shall be taking my running shoes and saying goodbye to blustery gales - whoopee :)) Our planes will possibly pass as you return to Britain!
Hey Vix, those temperatures are just mad. No wonder your mojo's hiding in the freezer. It's probably worrying about spontaneous combustion!
So, you're back in the UK in 16 weeks? Not thinking about the race we never talk about, surely?
today I might have to look for a condensing air conditioning unit, I am not sure how well it will cope with the heat. I thought we were coming back for good but at the 11th hour we were told that we were staying, so I won't be able to do the race we don't speak about in the UK
It does doesn't it and also you get to go to Oz and meet Wizards. :))
Phew!
Show off...I am soooooo jealous I am fed up of this cold weather!!!
