Harder than I thought!

W2r1 completed! Felt so much harder than last week but I did it. I’m still very much overweight but going slowly and eating healthily! I’m 52 so now is the time to take control of me and stop making excuses! I will get there, maybe not in 9 weeks but definitely at some point!

Well done you - I’m 53 and also thinking I need to get a grip soon or I will totally balloon - I could do with losing a stone or two but the menopause is rapidly increasing my waist and it’s not as easy to lose the weight when I gain it now - knackered thyroid doesn’t help. I’m not loving the running yet, but hopeful that I might one day from everyone’s posts. Keep going!

Thanks! It’s so hard though! And I know what you mean about the menopause! Makes everything harder. I need to lose about 5 stone in total so slow and steady for me. Weight watchers is helping too

I lost nearly five, and i’m only 5’ 3” tall, so I was a Wobble bottom ☺️

I went to WW and still do! It was because of them i started C25k

My health was at a low ebb so overhauling myself was urgent

All I can say is never quit, keep going with the exercise, and eating and drinking sensibly, and you can transform yourself. You can be fit and healthy

It’s a positive thing to do so enjoy it. You can get a real kick out of it 💪😃🏃‍♀️👍

Well done and keep going!! You’re out there doing it with the rest of us... we can all shuffle along together but at least we’re moving!! 🏃‍♀️😊

Very true! Though the speed I go at I’m often amazed I occasionally pass the people out for a walk!

That’s because you’re doing it right apparently from looking at other’s posts as we’re learning a new skill and our bodies are learning to adapt...it’s all good anyway! 😊

I'm glad I'm not the only one! 48, and 4 stone overweight, never even run for a bus before as asthmatic, but determined to do this and regain my lost energy (and lost waistline!!). Keep us posted with your progress :-)

It’s so nice to find people just like me doing this! I feel so encouraged and am determined to graduate! I always imagined joggers as super fit slim Jim’s and never imagined for a minute I’d be out there too, chugging along!

So did I as I stepped into my first Lycra, fearing the lumpy bumpy sack of potatoes look, and hiding out in the woods for weeks

Whatever it takes 😁🏃‍♀️💪👍

You WILL get there I have no doubt. Trust the plan, it will ease you along nicely. I have averaged 2 runs a week but have made steady progress and completed W9R1 tonight. I can’t believe I have just run for 30 mins!! It seems no time since I was panicking over the three minute runs! Good luck, enjoy, it’s amazing what our bodies can do! 👍

You can do this. Just remember that the programme works, you've just got to take it slow and steady and keep going. I started the programme aged 52 less than two years ago, having never run at all (not even at school), and now I really enjoy it and am constantly amazed at how far I can run. I had a lot of health issues to contend with and running has definitely helped me cope mentally as well as helped me gain a sense of control over my body again.

Don't forget to come in the forum often to share your running highs and lows - you'll get lots of encouragement, advice and guidance here. There's a fabulous sense of community.

Good luck.

Yes you will get there! Well done for starting x

Keep going as I was just like that when I started, I repeated week 1 three times before I moved on. I'm just about to start week 5. if I can do it anybody can.

I’m not one who usually brags about anything but please check out my ‘graduated’ post!

I am around 10 stone overweight with a number of health issues and completed a park run 2 weeks ago.

Biggest tip - go as slow as possible when jogging - Aim for stamina before distance and speed x

Keep going - it really does get more manageable! X

Well done !! I chickened out and did W1 R3 again as I wasn’t sure I could do W2 and don’t want to fail .. maybe I will go to W2 on my next run as you have inspired me !! I I’m 57 and over weight too but we won’t be soon if we keep this up 👍

Chicken out. Fail. Nah, you’ll be fine. Just go nice and steady, no rush 👍😃

Yep, just keep plugging away with the running and the healthy eating. One certainly helps the other

It becomes second nature after a bit. I don’t crave the rubbish I used to eat or drink, thankfully 😁

You can transform your health for sure but you have to stick with it

Good luck 😃👍🏃‍♀️

It is a step-up and the legs and lungs do feel it, but keep going... the weather is getting kinder and the birds are singing. As for weight - don't worry. You may well NOT lose weight as you build muscle as the weeks go on, and that weighs much more than the wobbly stuff! Instead, measure your waistline and upper arms on the 1st of each month. That is a much better gauge.

Good luck, keep going and keep us posted. For extra 'inspiration', watch the London marathon on Sunday and listen to some of the extraordinarily inspirational stories.

Congratulations "Jhill66" just shows you if you try you can do most anything. There is a measured 5k course near to where I live, near Glasgow, Scotland, I was a spectator at a recent 5k run a few months ago, so this morning I decided to try out week 1 of C25K on this measured course, I started at 9.40am, ran for 1 minute and walked for 2 minutes, looked at my watch when I finished, the time was 10.20am, so using week 1 of C25k I did it in 40 minutes. I have been a cyclist since I was 7 but only started running recently, I am a 71-year-old man, 10st 10lbs BMI 24 and in general good health. Next time I do this course I will repeat week 1, after that I will try to get on to week 2 which is 90seconds running, still two minutes walk, I will let you know how I get on.

To all the participants who are running the London Marathon this Sunday, all the best.

Hi

Last night I did R3 of W2 and it felt harder than R1 and R2 of the same week. Dunno why.. I suppose it was hot in London last night. I am wondering whether to go onto W3 or re-do W2. Any advice?

W2r1 for me too. Overweight and 53. All I can say is good on ya! Taking things into your own hands will pay off. Keep up the hard work.

Jhill66 I've just turned 54 and 4 stone overweight and slowly but surely made it to week 5, having read run week 4.

Remember it's your run at your pace, you will improve..so keep going . Although I don't know if I will ever love running 😁

Well done you. I’m almost 60 menopausal and about a stone overweight. I tried this last year and failed miserably. Recovered from popped disc and treatment for a dodgy knee and I’m trying again. Spent all last year upping my walking. Tried to do 10k steps a day over a each week and set myself 1000 mile challenge this year (on target so far). Feeling much fitter and have completed first 3 weeks. Not sure about the next 6 but what I have learned is to keep going at my own pace. If it takes 12 months so be it. I’ve even ventured out in daylight hours in Lycra much to my children’s disgust. Keep going. We can do it
