Ran outside for the first time in about 5 weeks today..really disappointed with how far I got. Been suffering from a little back pain & just couldn't hack it past 2k. Is this what the treadmill has done to me?!?!
A bit disappointed..: Ran outside for the first... - Couch to 5K
A bit disappointed..
I can't help re the treadmill Clare, I've only ever run on one when I had my gait analysis for my running shoes - and it wasn't easy at all!
But disappointing runs and lower back pain I can empathise with. Some runs are just like that it seems. I'm sure it'll go better next time.
I can't comment as I don't use a treadmill, but I have heard it is a bit easier than outside, however its far better you have been doing that rather than nothing! I would have thought the backpain was separate. Get it checked out, and I am sure your outdoor running will be fine. Back pain is really debilitating ;( Take care
You still ran, so that is the main thing. Injuries and circumstances may always conspire to prevent us from running as far, as fast or as frequently as we would like, but as long as you heed your body and keep your determination, you will still be a runner. We all have bad runs, we all have bad weeks, months even. Our health, fitness and circumstances fluctuate. But we just keep going.
You could try Pilates to strengthen the core muscles which could help you back? I imagine that running outside will be a bit more strenuous on back and joints compared to the treadmill. Doing back strengthening exercises on an exercise ball is also another way to strengthen the back and hip area if it's lower back pain.
If you're worried though a trip to the physio might put your mind at ease
Thanks guys been feeling glum all day because of it. I am determined to get better though!
