Yes they really help! If you type "foam roller" in the search box you'll get loads of posts and advice on them. They do hurt to begin with but persevere and they really help loosen up those tight muscles! Sitting on a tennis ball is good for tight hips too.

Snap! I have hip pain too. I ordered a foam roller from Amazon last night and hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. One of the reviewers on Amazon had been suffering from hip pain and found the roller really helped. I was reading various posts on the forum last night about foam rollers but also found this drbenkim.com/how-foam-roll-... which looks good. Sounds a good idea that as well as using it to help relieve pain, it can be used 2-3 times a week as a preventative too. I will watch with interest to see how you get on and I will let you know if it helps me :0)

Ok I've used it tonight and it bloody hurts! But apparently you get used to it. I spent a good bit of time sitting on it and rolling it under my bum and thighs. I actually felt like a knot on the left side which as the hip pain so I'm wondering if that's what was causing the pain. Anyway it actually feels a bit better this evening. I will be doing it again before my run tomorrow. Let me know how you get on

Hi ya :0) - yes it flipping hurts! I bought a bumpy one as well called The Beast. I haven't had a chance to run since it arrived and I am going away tomorrow for a week so will hopefully get back out again the back end of next week. I was reading that it can be used as part of your warm up routine. How is your running going?
