Longest run yet.

October has certainly been a super month weather wise for running. Again perfect conditions so set off full of anticipation. Decided on a new route but after the warm up walk was faced by a hill so onwards and upwards and hated every minute. By the time the road levelled out I was puffing like a steam engine, legs not wanting to co-operate and totally disheartened. There was no way I was going to give in and turn back so carried on until reached a main road then headed back to the village. After about 20mins I must have got my second wind as the breathing improved and had a spring in my step. Felt OK so detoured off along a side lane for a short while then doubled back ran down past my house and kept going, did not want to stop. Got to a point about a 5mins walk from home and reluctantly stopped. Amazed to see from RK that I had been running for over 47mins and a distance of 5.76 km. The furthest and longest I had achieved. So during the walk home I reflected on the fact that I had almost given up but gave myself a pat on the back for sticking with it. Set me up for the rest of the day.

It's weird how that happens, isn't it? I tend to feel like death after 5 mins, but really perk up after 10!

Well done - a great run :0). Those first few minutes always seem to be the hardest. I find my breathing is all over the place (great on Monday when someone stopped to ask me directions when I had only been running for a few mins!)...but about 10 mins in, everything seems to settle down.

Ah ha! That's why we say don't give up, have a breather and press on. A bad run can usually come good. You'd have kicked yourself if you'd packed it in

Yeah ! Well done to you, I think there was a post somewhere that mentioned where the first ten minutes of a run are known as " The Toxic Ten " something to do with your body wondering if its in fight or flight mode. Or in my case " What the hell are you doing ?? " Ha ha :-)

I just tell myself to keep calm, don't panic, and funnily enough my breathing settles down and that's it . Whoosh Im off !

That's brilliant! Good time too! You know, sometimes I wonder if more things affect us than we realise - one time I went out in fog, it was really grim and I was about to go home, than I rounded the corner into bright sunshine, what a difference that made!
